Bicton First TaeKwonDo teaches the traditional non competitive style of TKD. We accept children from the age of 6. We offer 2 free trial lessons.

First Tae Kwon Do Bicton provides traditional martial art and practical self-defence training to children (6 years+), adolescents, and adults. Our members train twice per week and also have the option of attending other First Tae Kwon Do classes at other venues throughout the week at no extra cost. We provide a non-contact style of training, and do not participate in martial art competitions such as tournaments. Our training focuses on both personal development and being realistically prepared for self-defence situations. Our members include schoolchildren, university students, and business professionals who understand the importance of honing their situational awareness and training to be mentally and physically ready for self-defence action, if the need should arise. We invite prospective members to come along to a class to see what our training is like, and to apply for a free, no-obligation introductory class. 🌟 Father’s Day 2026 🌟 This Father’s Day, First TaeKwonDo WA celebrates the dads who don’t just encourage their children from the sidelines — they step onto the Dojang floor and train alongside them.

There is something incredibly powerful about a father and child learning TaeKwonDo together. Every class becomes an opportunity to demonstrate, through action, the importance of discipline, respect, perseverance and determination.

Children learn from the examples they see. When Dad turns up, trains hard, faces challenges and keeps going when things get difficult, he is teaching lessons that extend well beyond martial arts.

The journey isn't always easy. There are techniques that take time to master, physical challenges that test us and moments when progress can feel slow. Sharing those experiences creates a unique bond between father and child — one built on encouragement, achievement and overcoming obstacles together.

And years from now, it may not be the individual kicks, punches or patterns they remember most. It will be the time spent together, the lessons learned and the memories created on the Dojang floor.

Today we’re featuring 2nd Kup, Ivy from our Bicton Dojang, putting her Side Kick into action at the recent First Tae Kwon Do WA Ladies Training Session held on Sunday, 9 August 2026, at the South Perth Community Centre.

Ivy demonstrates great technique, with a strong chamber, extension and focus through the target. 👊🥋

The Ladies Training Session was a fantastic opportunity for our female students from across WA to train together, develop their skills and support one another in a positive training environment.

Reminder that our FTKD Ladies Self-Defence Session is being held this Sunday, 9 August.

The session is open to all female students aged 10 years and over, graded 10th Kup and above, as well as female family members and friends of current students who are not currently training.

This session will be taught and run by an all Female Instructor Team lead by our WA Female Head Instructor, Marlyn Small.

One of the many challenges in the grading exam awaits our 2nd Kup (Brown Belt) students applying for 1st Kup.

As part of their examination, they must spar two Black Belts at the same time—a demanding test that pushes their fitness, composure, strategy and fighting spirit to the limit.

With attacks coming from multiple directions, there is no opportunity to switch off. Students must demonstrate strong footwork, awareness, controlled techniques and the ability to stay calm under constant pressure. It's a true measure of how well they can apply the skills they have developed throughout their martial arts journey.

This challenge is about showing determination, resilience and the ability to perform under pressure.
