Awakening with Breath β€” A Reflection on Buddha Purnima πŸŒΏπŸ™

I feel deeply honoured to be invited by PSSM Australia to share at the Buddha Purnima celebration, β€œAwakening with Breath,” on 23rd May 2026 in Sydney.

Breath is the most intimate teacher of life. It arrives before thought, before identity, before words β€” and remains with us as a silent witness through every joy, struggle, question, and transformation.

In the simple act of becoming aware of breath, we begin to see the nature of existence itself. Breath teaches us impermanence: each inhalation arises, each exhalation dissolves. Nothing can be held, yet everything can be experienced fully.

Perhaps awakening is not an escape from life, but a deeper intimacy with it. A return to the present moment. A softening of the ego. A remembering that peace is not somewhere else β€” it is hidden within the awareness of this very breath.

On the sacred occasion of Buddha Purnima, we gather to honour the light of the Buddha β€” not merely as a historical figure, but as a living possibility within every human heart: the possibility to awaken, to observe, to understand, and to respond to life with compassion.

I look forward to sharing reflections on Breath and Awareness, alongside fellow practitioners, meditation, music, dialogue, and community presence.

May this gathering remind us that the path to awakening begins not in distance, but in depth β€” not in another moment, but in this breath.

With gratitude,
Dr Amit Sharma
