FISH OF THE MONTH - TROUT

Dust off your thermal long-johns and swap out your salt rigs for freshwater tackle - our next event is right around the corner! Buckenderra is boasting a scorching daytime high of 14 degrees, with overnight temperatures plummeting to a cozy, frostbitten 0 degrees. So start prepping your gear (and untangling your lines) now for what promises to be a legendary long weekend away from 2nd October to 4th October. If you haven’t put your name down yet, don’t panic - there’s still time! Final preparations will be locked in later this month, so let us know you’re booked in as soon as humanly possible.

Keep an eye out for those fancy tagged rainbow trout recently released for the Snowy Trout Challenge. Hopefully, one of our own members can reel one in and claim ultimate bragging rights!

Finally, for those who can’t make the road trip but are still hunting for the Fish of the Month - any trout must be officially weighed by Glen Edwards, who will be waiting in Nowra with the official scales. All catches must be weighed in by 2:00 PM on Sunday, 4th October. No fishy excuses for late entries!

Despite weather conditions that nearly blew us into the next postcode, 17 absolute legend fishos braved the wild, howling winds for Comp 3! Huge credit to everyone who showed up, and a big shoutout to our Weigh Master, Glen, and his trusty stand-in offsider, Tony, for getting everyone sorted at the scales.

Here is who conquered the conditions and snagged the glory:

Overall Winner - Thanh Le took on the beach and put on an absolute masterclass with an outstanding 119.54 points. His seafood basket consisted of 11 fish across 4 different species!

Runner-Up - Ron Smith fished the estuaries to secure 2nd place with 102.02 points. He also managed to snag the Biggest Bream prize with a cracking 0.810 kg catch.

Ladies Winner - Jody Myers reeled in 71.82 points from a couple of nice salmon and a Trevally off the rocks which also pocketed her the Fish of the Month title!

Junior Winner - Blake Harford proved the young guns are tough as nails, also fishing off the rocks in the wind to rack up a stellar 46.14 points.

Biggest Snapper - Phil Muller locked down top snapper bragging rights with a great catch weighing in at 0.868 kg.

Double Mystery Winner - Clayton Muller decided to hog the spotlight this round! He not only snatched the Mystery Weight prize with a solid 0.968 kg salmon, but he managed to score Mystery Fisho as well.

A massive congratulations to all our winners and place-getters, and a very Happy Father’s Day to all the legendary dads in the club!

We also would like to send out a warm welcome to our newest member Kelly.

Our next Fishing Competition is happening this weekend, Saturday 5th & Sunday 6th of September, and the Fish of the Month is TREVALLY!
Andrew Sutherland currently sits atop the heaviest species board with a solid 0.83kg Trevally. Think you can hook something bigger and knock Andrew off his perch? Show us what you've got!
Anyone fishing MUST message our Weigh Master, Captain Glen (0414760541), before 9:00 AM on Sunday. Please include all Angler Names and the Section you're fishing, and remember to only text Glen between 7:00 AM and 7:00 PM.

Weigh-In is 2:00 PM sharp on Sunday at Bomaderry Bowling Club. Cooked Lunch following! There’s no better way to celebrate Father’s Day than with a hot meal, a cold beverage, and telling tall stories about the ones that got away!

Before the fishing action starts, join us for our Weekly Meat Raffle this Friday at 6:30PM at the Bomaderry Bowling Club. It would be great to see a full house there to take home some top-tier meat trays! Tickets go on sale at 5PM!
Right after the raffle, we’ll also be holding our Monthly Committee Meeting to start locking in plans for the epic Buckenderra Weekend Social Comp coming up on the October long weekend.

Comp 2 is in the books for the Bomaderry Amateur Fishing Club, and while half the fleet was busy feeding the crabs, the rest of us managed to haul in 54 total fish over the weekend!

Our overall Winner was Glen Edwards with 102.12 points, made up of 7 fish across 2 species (blackfish and bream), and he also managed to snag the Biggest Bream of the comp at 1.01 kg.

Sub-Junior Winner was Sebastian Le with an outstanding 126.48 points. He bagged 7 fish across 3 species (7.248 kg worth of scaled action) out on the beach, outscoring every single adult on the board, even his Dad!

Caiden Harford also hit the beaches hard and was our Junior Winner with 99.70 points. Not only did Caiden out-fish his dad and take out the Junior award, he also won Fish of the Month with a cracking 2.28 kg Salmon!

Ron Smith took the boat out estuary and got runner-up with 92.92 points. A solid 7-fish haul keeping Glen, and all the rest of us, on our toes.

Marlene Smith took out Ladies with 34.84 points and a couple of nice blackfish in her bag as well.

Mystery Fisho was Bill Hunter, and with no Snapper being weighed in, an additional Mystery Fisho prize was handed out to Bethany Le.

Even with young Caiden taking out top honors with his 2.28 kg salmon for Fish of the Month, Phil Muller's monstrous 2.877 kg mark on the Heaviest of Species board remains undefeated for now!

Glen’s Bream bagged the comp's best at 1.01 kg, but Ned Ashley still holds the seasonal record so far with his 1.107 kg unit.

Tight lines until Comp 3 which will be held on the 5th/6th September. Fish of the month is Trevally with Andrew Sutherland already appearing on our Heaviest Species Board with a weight of 0.83.

A final reminder that our Buckenderra Weekend is not far off. Please make sure you have your accommodation sorted and name on our sign-up sheet so we can ensure everyone is catered for.

Hi everyone
Just a quick update from our last committee meeting.

We have been looking at how we can increase our membership so you might have seen some posts on some local community pages and flyers in local tackle stores.
Phil talked about some funding which is available to run fishing clinics which we can use to raise awareness about our fishing club.

Also, just a reminder that clubs fees are due, most people are up to date and have paid their subs before comp 3.

Another reminder is that if you are going to fish a comp weekend you need to send a text to Glen before 9am on Sunday.

Buckenderra comp weekend will soon be here so if you are planning to stay at Buckenderra we hope you have booked your accommodation.
In the past fishos have fished/camped at other sites so we hope everyone can make the weigh-in, 2pm at Buckenderra. If the time changes we will let people know.

Dust off your tackle boxes and stretch those casting arms because Comp 2 of the 2026/2027 season is kicking off next weekend, August 15th and 16th, featuring Salmon 🐟 as our Fish of the Month!

To get in on the fun, make sure to send your name and details to our Weigh Master, Captain Glen (0414 760 541), before 9:00 AM on Sunday, August 16th—just be sure to respect his golden rule and only message him between 7:00 AM and 7:00 PM.

Keep those lines tight, anglers, and bring your prize catches to our official weigh-in at 2:00 PM on Sunday, August 16th, where we will be firing up a sizzling BBQ lunch for everyone to enjoy!

Hi everyone
Last weekend was our first comp for the season and for a change the weather was great.
People headed out to the rocks, estuary and deep sea
88 fish were weighed in including snapper, bream, salmon, trevally, blackfish, drummer and assorted other bits.

Winner for this comp was Andrew Sutherland
With his family in tow they headed down to target with everyone getting a good catch.
Logan won the junior section with 5 good salmon, with a total bag of over 7 kg.
Jodie and tony headed out wide and caught a great variety of fish. In the end Jody edged ahead on the point by just .36 kg.
Junior winner was Beth Le.
Biggest snapper tony smith, biggest bream Glen, fish of the month Tailor Phil muller, mystery weight Barry Preston, mystery fisho Barry muller
Next comp is aug 15-16

Sorry for the delay in the report, I’ve been in NT again.
Caught some nice jewfish and GTs.
Lost a metre plus Barra after 5 minutes of a great tussle when on the 3rd jump it threw the hooks
