DROUGHT BREAKERS & HISTORY MAKERS! 💙💛🏆
For 35 long years, generations of Waverley players and coaches have chased a Kentwell Cup premiership. In 2026, Head Coach Dion Spice and Assistant Coach Guy Van Den Dries helped turn that dream into reality.
In Dion’s first ever year as a Head Coach and Guy’s first as an Assistant Coach after looking after the lineouts last season, the boys achieved what some were starting to believe might never happen again, a Waverley 1st Grade premiership.
With no dedicated 2nd Grade coach this year, Dion and Guy put their hands up to take on both teams. What followed was an extraordinary season, leading 1st & 2nd Grade to minor premierships and then Grand Final victories.
Both teams were outstanding throughout the year, setting the standard with their consistency, commitment and quality of rugby. Those Grand Final wins were the reward for months of hard work, with both sides delivering when it mattered most.
Their contribution extended across every grade. Dion was there from 5th Grade onwards every Saturday, running water and helping with warm ups, while Guy supported the women’s team and lower grades on game day. Every Tuesday and Thursday, Dion was at training from 5:30pm, helping anyone who wanted to get some extras in. Two coaches who gave their time to the whole club.
Arguably one of the finest coaching seasons in the history of Subbies Rugby. The club is forever grateful for the time, effort and dedication you both put in, helping deliver the single most successful day in our 55 year history.
Here’s hoping the boys run it back in 2027 👀
