We had the pleasure of cooking lunch for recently at ours. Zach is a unique voice in human health and the intersection between us and nature. Worth looking into his work for anyone interested. He’s incredibly well credentialed and speaks with compassion, love and commonsense.

As we age it’s of little surprise, I’m sure, that we increase the risk of dying from all causes. Age is the number one pre-determinant of dying (this is a happy subject right!) But, there are a number of things we can do to mitigate the risk of dying. Not getting hit by a bus is one, but there are a bunch of lifestyle choices we can make (daily, weekly, monthly and quarterly) that extend our health-span and protect us from death of ACM (all cause mortality).

The kids have been away this week at the farm. Of course .m.brown assigned me the task of painting the floorboards which has meant I’ve been high as a kite all week and unable to get to the kitchen due to wet floors. However, this morning I have come down from the fumes and able to get into my kitchen. Simple but delicious - the only thing that could of topped it off was some crispy black pudding but hey can’t have it all.
Can’t wait to see their faces later today ❤️

I’ve been called a dandy man more often than I’ve been called a handy man but last week I rejuvenated our outdoor deck with with next to no preparation and definitely no sanding. You don’t have to shop in the health food aisle to cook healthy food (some of that stuff is masquerading as health food anyway)
For the longest time 'healthy' food has been represented by mung beans, kale smoothies and quinoa bowls. They all have their place but old classic dishes like bolognese, stews and curries can be incredibly health-promoting too...yet we rarely think in these terms. Take this humble mince dish for instance, it has no processed ingredients, good quality beef, gelatine, collagen, veggies, salt and all the minerals, nutrients, and vitamins attached to these ingredients. Protein is a strong driver for satiety, reducing the need to eat as often (reducing the risk of weight accumulation) which is important in weight management but also prioritising protein with each meal will ensure daily targets are met for optimal health. Worth pointing out that the RDI for protein in widely accepted as being too low (0.8g/kg/body mass) - being the threshold to keep you and I out of hospital but perhaps a healthier intake to support optimal health should be in the region of 1.2g/kg body mass (minimum) and more if you're training, up to 2g/kg/body mass and higher.
