Bondi to Bronte Ocean Swim Join us for the 25th Anniversary of the Bondi to Bronte Ocean Swim on Sunday 8 November 2026! We have big plans for this special milestone event.

The 20th Macquarie Bondi to Bronte Ocean Swim takes place on Sunday 20th March 2022. The course runs between one of Australia's most famous beaches, Bondi Beach and the beautiful Bronte Beach.

24 from 24. Meet Tim 🌊

Born and bred in the Eastern Suburbs, Tim Ryan learnt to swim at Bondi Icebergs.

When the first Bondi to Bronte came along in 2001, Tim decided to give it a go.

Back then, finish times were handwritten on Post-it notes and taken back to the Club for recording! A lot has changed since that first swim, but one thing has stayed the same… Tim lining up on the start line every year!

As if swimming 2.2km is not impressive enough, Tim also finds time to volunteer at the first aid tents before and after his swim. Tim’s enthusiasm for the event is shared by the whole family, with wife Louise volunteering on the merchandise stall for more than 15 years and daughters Emily and Georgy both taking part in the swim.

It is legends like Tim and his family who make the B2B so special. 💙

“The B2B is the best event on the ocean swim calendar.”

This November, Tim will be back for number 25!

24 from 24. Meet Leonard 🌊

Leonard remembers the very first Bondi to Bronte in 2001 as a much smaller affair, with manual timing, not many swimmers and the exciting idea of swimming from one iconic beach to another.

He’s been back every year since!

Over 24 swims there have been challenging conditions, personal hurdles, forgotten goggles and even some questionable navigation.

But through it all, it’s his love of the ocean that keeps bringing him back.

This year, number 25 will be particularly special, with his daughters swimming alongside him.

And as for stopping?

“I’ll be there as long as I am capable.” 💙

24 from 24. Meet Roz 🌊

Back in 2001, Roz was a runner, not a swimmer. But she entered the very first Bondi to Bronte anyway - and breaststroked the entire way.

She never imagined that 25 years later she would be teaching swimming, competing in Masters Carnivals and preparing to line up for her 25th Bondi to Bronte.

Along the way there have been wild conditions, swims with family and friends, a 3am dash from a wedding in Forster to keep the streak alive - and plenty of great memories.

What keeps her coming back?

“The people, volunteers, ocean and challenge. Every swim is different.”

There is plenty of conversation about ocean safety at the moment, but throwing everything we have at swimmer safety is nothing new for us.
