📮 80 YEARS OF MEMORIES – A POSTCARD FROM TERALBA'S PAST
Take a look at this fantastic old Lake Macquarie postcard from around 1990, showing what a Saturday at Teralba used to look like. ⛵
The bank is absolutely packed with boats, and some of the NS14s in the foreground may bring back a few memories.
We can spot Falcon, Up Periscope, Geehi 7, Sea Hawk, Ykikamoocow, Osprey, Renegade, Hornet and Marksman. How many do you remember?
This was the heyday of NS14 sailing on Lake Macquarie. Four clubs regularly had NS14 fleets, and the Lake Macquarie Championship was hotly contested. For local sailors, winning it was a huge achievement – almost as prestigious as taking out a National title.
And what a sight it was every Saturday! The bank at Teralba would be lined with sailing boats, sailors and families getting ready for an afternoon on the lake.
As we celebrate 80 years of sailing at Teralba, we'd love to see scenes like this again – and we'd especially love to see NS14s back on the lake in numbers.
So, where are all those NS14s now? 👀
If you've got one tucked away in a garage or shed, perhaps it's time to dust it off, find the sails and get it back on the water. We'd love to see old boats and old faces return to Teralba during our 80th year.
And don't forget our 80th Anniversary Regatta – 28 & 29 November 2026. What better reason to get an old boat sailing again?
