South Sea Outriggers

South Sea Outriggers South Sea Voyagers & South Sea Outriggers is based from our new South Sea House at Queens Beach in Bowen.

Come and join in a paddle from the bays and beaches of Queens, Grays and Front Beach on outrigger canoes and outrigger sailing canoes. The Traditional Sport - South Sea Voyagers Collective and Queens Beach Outriggers develops, promotes and practices the traditional use of outrigger canoes: voyaging, paddling, sailing and community. Queen’s Beach Outriggers is re-introducing the sport to Bowen with the aim to develop local competitions and engage many sectors of the local community. There is a strong outrigger canoe heritage with the original Bowen Outrigger Canoe Club founded in 1989 and becoming one of the top 10 clubs in Australia at that time. Holding the National Titles in 1992, having over 90 junior members, many winning National Titles. The potential of the sport in Bowen is endless because of the climate and coastal environments that provide all manner of ocean conditions in which to practice and ultimately excel in outrigger canoe racing. From flat-water bays, and blue water ocean passages, it provides the right mix of locations for the sport to develop in Bowen, leading to it’s very own annual Queens Beach Regatta.

Our first OC1 for the club from Ashley Kennedy from Outrigger Whitsunday. A nice older Zulu... got lots of repairs needed, loose iakos, ama needs major adjustment, repairs need to be repaired again, but works. Will get a freshen up to new and join the three OC2's we have from Hekili Outrigger Canoe Club Port Douglas Outrigger Canoe Club Inc Need more paddles though so will be putting another call out soon.

Some donated paddles from Port Douglas Outrigger Canoe Club Inc gives us a really good start. Even still got some names ...

To our Paddling community from Cairns to Brisbane - the Bowen paddling community need your support. Did you know Bowen had 90 junior paddlers in it's prime. We need your help. We currently have a trailer in Cairns picking up some canoes from Hekilli... BUT have space for another two OC6 or OC4 canoes or anything else you can part with from Cairns to Mackay. Needing training paddles, old canoe trolleys, even old OC1's, V1's, 2's, 3's, parts, Iakos, Amas what have you got.
