Another massive two days of clay shooting took place at Dorset over the weekend, with 73 competitors joining us for the 2026 Field & Game Australia Tasmanian State Championships, sponsored by Sports Hut Launceston .
A big congratulations to Nick Brown, who was crowned State Champion for 2026 with a score of 136/150! Adam Crick finished next on 133, with Lyndon Nicholls right behind on 132. A well-earned win, Nick!
Adam had a pretty handy weekend himself, taking out AA Grade and our Handicap award, edging out Lyndon on countback for the latter. Lyndon finished runner-up in both, with just the one target separating their overall scores.
For four of our AA competitors, 150 targets apparently wasn’t enough. Cameron McCarthy, Mathew Crawford, Luke Edson and Ken Triffitt all finished on 129, setting up a four-way shoot-off for third. Cameron held his nerve in the clutch moments to claim the final podium spot. Well done to all four!
A Grade went to Brady Nash on 124, ahead of Stuart Lardner on 121 and Thomas Gregson on 119.
Darren Lade took out B Grade with 109, while the contest for runner-up was a little closer, with Arthur Carter finishing on 97, just one target ahead of Shane Crawford on 96.
In C Grade, congratulations to Anita Francombe on taking the win, with Stephanie Hill finishing runner-up.
Our Junior winner was Harrison Simpson with 109, followed by Jacob Nicholls on 100 and Daniel Ireland on 91.
Among our Visitors, Andrew Wratten finished on top with 126, followed by Jebb Wilson on 117. Jake Wilson and Barry Bone couldn’t be separated on 106, sharing third place. It was great to have you all join us at Dorset.
We also had three perfect rounds across the weekend. Nick Brown put together his 25/25 in round four, Adam Crick followed in round five, and Christopher Rhodes rounded things out with one in the sixth and final round. A nice way to finish the weekend, Christopher!
A big thank you to Sports Hut Launceston for sponsoring this year’s championships and supporting the prizes across our grades and categories. We really appreciate you getting behind Dorset and our competitors.
To everyone who helped get the club ready, gave a hand over the two days or stayed to help pack up afterwards, thank you. There’s a fair bit of work involved in hosting a weekend like this, and we’re very grateful to everyone who contributed their time and effort.
And finally, thank you to everyone who came along and competed. We hope you enjoyed your weekend at Dorset, whether you went home with a prize, a perfect round or a few targets you’d quite like another go at!
Congratulations to all our winners and placegetters. We’ll see you at the next one.
