Women’s sport is not having a moment it’s undergoing a seismic shift.

Our gymnastics coaches, Ally, Bella, Ashleigh, and Ellie from the Brighton Rec team stepped into a room packed with over 600 leaders, athletes, and changemakers at the Women in Sport Breakfast.

They listened to powerful stories, tackled the real issues surrounding equality, and discussed how we can collectively rewrite the narrative so women and girls in sport feel genuinely seen, valued, and supported. From grassroots local clubs to elite stages, every single action counts.

A huge shoutout to Gymnastics Victoria for proudly sponsoring this incredible event and keeping gymnastics at the forefront of the conversation! 🤸‍♀️

Whether it’s backing a teammate, coaching the next generation, or turning up to support female athletes—we all have a role to play. Let’s keep pushing the boundaries.

Planning a trip to Japan?

A new Japanese for Travellers course will soon be available at our centre, offering participants the opportunity to learn practical Japanese phrases for real-life travel situations. Topics may include navigating train stations, communicating with hotel staff, ordering at restaurants and asking for directions.

With small class sizes and interactive role-play activities, participants will build confidence in speaking, listening, reading and writing basic Japanese using Roman script (Romaji). Lessons will be tailored to the interests and travel goals of the group.

Sam has been with us since day one, and we honestly couldn’t imagine this place without her.

As one of our superstar fitness instructors, she brings the energy, the passion, and the motivation to every single session.

Here are a few things you might not know about Sam:
☕ Local favourite: You’ll likely spot her refuelling at The Pantry in Brighton

💅 Secret talent: She is a fully qualified nail tech, which explains why her nails are always looking absolutely flawless.

✨ Her favourite part of the job? The incredible community, the people, and the welcoming environment.

In fact, she loves her role so much she wouldn’t swap her job with anyone else in the entire centre!

Next time you see Sam around the gym, make sure to say hi, check out her latest nail art, and thank her for being such a massive part of our Brighton Rec family. 🫶

We are incredibly proud of sisters Chloe and Sacci, who represented Brighton Rec at the Peak Gymnastics Masters over the weekend! 🏆✨

The girls performed some absolutely fantastic routines, and their hard work truly shone through on the floor.

For Chloe and Sacci, the journey with BRC goes way back when they both trained at the club during their childhood.

Today, they continue to hone their skills as regulars in our Adult Gymnastics classes. Talk about coming full circle!

Huge congratulations, girls! Thank you for representing our community so beautifully

Most of us spend our entire day doing shallow chest breathing. When you only breathe into your upper chest, your body assumes you’re under attack—triggering a subtle, constant drip of stress hormones (cortisol and adrenaline).
This is Full Yogic Breathing (Dirgha Pranayama). By moving the breath sequentially through your belly, ribs, and collarbones, you:

✅ Access up to 80% more of your actual lung capacity.
✅ Instantly stimulate the vagus nerve.
✅ Force your nervous system out of “fight or flight” and into “rest and digest.”

Come and practice yoga and meditation with us at Brighton Rec!

We run gentle, expert-led Yoga Classes alongside dedicated Meditation Classes

Our school holiday kids’ wheel sessions are something special: cool wet clay, the hum of the wheel, and that deep, quiet focus.

Australian research shows up to 30% of a child’s waking time is spent in front of a screen. On the wheel, it’s zero.

Pottery is pure sensory play. The texture, the pressure, the spin all help little nervous systems settle into calm, absorbed flow. And they walk away with something they made with their own two hands.

⚠️ Holiday program only, not part of our regular classes, so spots go fast!

Kids had an amazing time with their creations.

This gentle morning flow works on the things that keep you feeling younger for longer:

✨ Balance, so you stay steady on your feet
✨ Mobility, so your joints stay loose, not stiff
✨ Breath, so you start the day calm instead of rushed

Try it slowly for 5 minutes tomorrow morning. No gear or experience needed, and you don’t even have to change out of your PJs.

P.S. Check out the cover photo. That’s our instructor Eric 25 years ago, and he hasn’t aged a bit since. We’re putting it down to tai chi. 😉

Want to learn it properly? Join us at Brighton Rec.
