Last ride out I did not make it to the start of the Brisbane Valley Rail Trail. This time however, GREAT Success! 130kms under my belt, weather at the moment is unseasonable warm, 30 degrees centigrade. Where are you Autumn ?

First ride out towards the Brisbane Valley Rail Trail from home. Did not make it there on this run but it’s close.

Each day I travel to work on my bike I go through the Brisbane Showgrounds. That’s where this great sign is located.

Been taking an old route towards Nudgee beach. Normally I head north following the Gateway MWY, but this way is a little bit more scenic.

Five years ago I invested in one of the first-generation Tacx Flux trainers.

It was solid… but not perfect.

There was a known design flaw — a plastic fitting that tensioned the internal drive belt just wasn’t strong enough to handle sustained load. Over time, it warped. And when it warped, things got messy.

After some digging, I found a group on Facebook where other riders were dealing with the same issue. That’s when I came across a hobby engineer in the United Kingdom who had redesigned the weak plastic part into a beautifully milled aluminium replacement.

I ordered one. Installed it. Problem solved.

Since then, it’s been rock solid.

I’ll always prefer the open road — sunrise miles, quiet climbs, café stops. But when the weather has other ideas, this trainer doesn’t miss a beat.

Sometimes the best upgrades aren’t buying something new — they’re fixing what you already love.

New wheels for my Klein Attitude Race — a 26” old-school mountain bike that’s now living its best life as a town bike.

Fully kitted out with mudguards, easy gearing, and semi-slick Maxxis tyres, it’s built for smooth city miles with classic MTB soul.

All the bearings are housed in pure Chris King jewellery — bottom bracket, headset, and hubs. Built to last, built to ride, and definitely built to stand the test of time.

Some bikes age. Others become icons.

On this very stretch of bike path, I had a surprise encounter—a young brown snake 🐍 crossing left to right. I slowed, gave him space, and as I passed he launched a tiny protest at my sudden presence. Feisty little bu**er.
