HOW WELL QUALIFIED IS YOUR BOOTCAMP TRAINER?
Exercise Unlocked Bootcamp offers a unique benefit over possibly every other bootcamp being run in Brisbane. The owner is a fully Accredited Exercise Physiologist, whereas 99% of other businesses are run by Personal Trainers.
SO WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE?
While Personal Trainers and Exercise Physiologists are both passionate about your wellbeing and have a common goal of helping you reach your physical goals there are a few important differences between them:
WHAT IS A PERSONAL TRAINER?
Personal Trainers are required to complete certificate level education in order to become qualified and can work only with healthy populations mainly focusing on aesthetic goals. Their qualifications are certificate level training ranging anywhere from 2 weeks to 12 months and do not need to be registered to provide their services.
WHAT IS AN ACCREDITED EXERCISE PHYSIOLOGIST (AEP)?
AEPs are university qualified, Allied Health Professionals equipped with the knowledge, skills and competencies to design, deliver and evaluate safe and effective exercise interventions for healthy populations as well as people with chronic medical conditions, injuries or disabilities.
Exercise Physiologists have 4-year university degrees and must carry professional registration with ESSA (Exercise and Sports Science Australia), their national governing body.
WHY DOES IT MATTER?
Simply put, most people over the age of 30 will aquire some sort of injury or medical condition that will become a significant barrier to exercise. This may mean a torn meniscus, ruptured achilles tendon, rotator cuff injury, osteoarthritis, frozen shoulder, heart condition, diabetes, spinal degeneration or post pregnancy complications.
These are all common issues outside the scope of a personal trainer. They just don't have the level of training or competency to safely deliver exercise to anybody with these problems.
However, an Exercise Physiologist has been specifically trained and is able to provide appropriate, safe exercise interventions for those with medical conditions or injuries.
