Is 60 the new 40? Who knows but feeling younger for longer is a pretty good goal.

Getting back to it. Definitely appreciating being able to move again. There’s nothing like a wake up call hospital stint, to change your perspective. 20 mins swimming, 10 mins listening to AC/DC on the bike and then a pat of the doggy. Ticking some big boxes. Enjoy moving is the lesson of the day and…dogs are good for the soul :)

Try what we do for free. If you like how we do it, stay. If not no worries. We know we can’t be everything to everyone. We specialise in people interested in simply feeling better from regular (individually suited) exercise. Hope to hear from you soon.

Just some good folk investing in their strength on a Saturday morning. This movement, the 'horizontal push' aka the 'lying down single arm chest press' requiring core stabilisation and upper body strength,is just one of the moves we do in the Fit Over 40 small group training class . I guess if the truth be known, most involved have the calendar age of 40 firmly in the rearview mirror, but the biological age? Well that is a different story! The concept of comes to mind.

If you plan on remaining independent and kind of like the CEO of your own future, from a health point of view (is there any other point of view more important?), then you will need to be able to get in and out of a chair under your own steam. This is basic I know, but these things slowly but surely disappear if you don't invest time and effort. The ability to squat is therefore a non negotiable. But it can be modified to suit and you can build on where you are at. The body can always progress.

The weekend is coming so what's it going to be? The one big thing that health and fitness allows us is....choice. If you aren't there yet just start. In a world of quick fix and instant this and instant that, there is much to be said for the power of now. When I was attempting to be a professional tennis player, my best times were when I could focus on the process and not the outcome. There is much joy when you can fully engage with the present, free of judgement. So....start your journey to an improve level of health and fitness this weekend. Do what you can until you can also do what you want.

Who needs a chair right? At Fit Over 40, there is as much value in just hanging out with others as there is in trying to improve your movement or strength or cardio function a little. No need to over think this thing. The beauty in what we do? Well you can try it out despite any fears you might have and if it makes you feel better or good, then join us ongoing. If not walk away and find something that fits better. I won't be offended :) No risk, just potential upside.

Do you have to be over 40 to join us? Definitely not. What if you are over 60 or 70? No problem. The 'Fit Over 40' thing is a mindset and an intention to make the second half of life as good as or better than the first half depending on how that went or is going for you :) It's never too late and our approach is one of controlled progression, mixed in with fun and laughter. The only people I would say this is not for is the super fit, extreme athlete or wannabe, military, emergency personnel and fitness models. No disrespect to you guys but I don't reckon what we do will suit, well at least not until you are ready for a different pace. Our approach will helps with modest things like the ability to do gardening without back pain, reduce stress in your day to day life, increase resilience in general, improve your ability to play with kids or grandkids so they don't wonder what happened to you, so you can engage in community leisure activities of your choice, will be able to get in and out of a chair without assistance when you are 90!

I think a lot of people go wrong by going too hard too soon. Our goal is to just get you started as priority number 1. It’s a mental game. New habits of action, no matter how inconsequential that action may seem. From little things big things come and all that. Long story short. Be very nice to yourself. Especially in the beginning. The first target of behaviour change is…. Simply just turning up. Forget all the distracting catch phrases that only undermine the big picture. When I say catch phrases, I mean stupid stuff from that PE teacher or football coach who turned you off exercise from a young impressionable age. “go hard or go home” “no pain no gain” “sweat is only fat crying!!” Actually that last one is pretty funny. But take home message and referring to another more useful catch phrase…fake it till you make it :) Try what we do for free and then you decide if we are in fact different.

The work and the pay off! Training and then a coffee catch up on Saturday. The social connection of exercise can be as important as the actual training itself. With a plan to do it different, Fit Over 40 has big plans 🙂 Lets see how it goes. You can try it for free. 3 sessions and then you decide. The big idea? Training classes designed to enhance not exhaust. It is particularly for those who aren’t super fit or even aspiring to that. It’s more about how you feel than how you look, right?

Hands up if you have ever been intimidated by some of the advertisements you have seen for a gym or small group fitness training studio? You know what I mean, square jawed and chiseled singlet wearing trainer blowing a whistle whilst high fiving some rippling 20 or 30 something dude with crazy guns or fake tanned lycra clad babe who might have just stumbled off the catwalk in the middle of an 'Insta shoot? If you don't feel like you would fit in there, then perhaps Fit Over 40, 'small group fitness for everyday people' is more your style. Look, you may indeed be very good looking, that's okay we won't discriminate and you too will be welcome :) On a more serious note, we do in fact make sure, as our top priority that the exercises, all designed for a specific real world purpose can be dialed up or down to suit varying levels of ability. But the truth is if you are super advanced, we may not be for you. Don't worry the Ninja Warriors always have an opening or two.
