Throwback to 2014.

Australia sent a team to London UK to compete in the Commonwealth SAMBO Championships, and Presidents Cup.

Our very own Queenslander, Dean Purdon was selected to represent Australia, along with New South Wales Welshmen Bernardo Trekko Magalhaes, Luke Vella, and Karl Zuvela. We believe this team were possibly the first to medal for Australia internationally.

The competition ran over two days with Queenslands Dean Purdon bringing home Gold in Men’s 82kg Combat SAMBO. Karl Zuvela NSW won Gold in 92kg Sport SAMBO, Luke Vella NSW won Gold in Heavyweight Combat SAMBO, and Bernardo Trekko Magalhaes won Gold in 74kg Sport and Combat SAMBO.

Terry Riches was at the helm of SAMBO Australia at the time.

Throwback to 2006. SAMBO in Australia at that time was represented by the former Australian SAMBO Association. Our very own current Queensland SAMBO Master of Sport Adam Tibbitts was President. Adam is shown in this pic throwing an opponent during a National comp. Check out the near vintage FIAS approved Dansport boots and Sambovka kindly donated by FIAS to the then Australian SAMBO Association.

National seminar - complete information about SAMBO. The seminar includes information for referees and separate training of SAMBO instructors and coaches.
Entry is free for everyone.
Those who wish to complete accreditation upon completion of the course and become a member of the national federation as a REFEREE OR COACH pay $150 for a certificate and official registration..

Our inaugural Queensland state SAMBO titles went off over the weekend in beautiful tropical Cairns. Great to see entrants from all age ranges in Beach, Sport, and Combat disciplines. We had a strong representation from Cairns, along with entrants travelling from Brisbane and Townsville to compete. A huge thank you to Cairns SAMBO Club for hosting. It’s great to be able to bring state level competition to regional Queensland areas. Results will be posted shortly.

Queensland we are growing, and are proud to be working with 5 dedicated clubs with a wealth of experience in fight sports. SAMBO classes are now on offer in this great state of ours in Cairns, Brisbane Northside, Brisbane Southside, and Gold Coast.
