Hospital birth is the most common choice in Australia. For many women, it’s the right one. But “most common” and “right for me” aren’t always the same thing.
When deciding if a hospital birth is right for you, it’s worth considering: the pain management options you want access to. Types and rates of intervention. Birth trauma statistics. Who your birth team will be. The impact of a clinical environment on oxytocin — the hormone that drives labour. Staying overnight. Your hospital’s policies. And your journey to hospital in active labour.
Hospitals offer genuine choice; from a planned or emergency caesarean, to a spontaneous, non-medicalised vaginal water birth. They’re also full of strangers, bright lights, noise, and systemic processes.
Both of those things are true. Part two of this episode covers home birth.

PUBLIC VS PRIVATE MATERNITY CARE - part ✌🏼
This is part two of a breakdown on public vs private antenatal care in Australia — covering continuity of care, intervention rates, where you have your appointments, hospital choice, private rooms, and who your primary healthcare professional actually is in each system.
The short version: there’s no universally better option. There’s only what suits your values and your circumstances. My goal is to help you make an informed choice.
Part one covers the funding models and the research on quality of care.

The system shapes your motherhood. And it’s failing you.
How you birth. How you recover. Whether you sleep. Whether you’re supported, resourced, heard.
The big stuff and the invisible stuff — all of it happens inside a system that wasn’t designed with mothers in mind.
You can’t opt out. But you can stop blaming yourself for what the system created. And recognising that these social forces exist is the first step to being intentional about crafting your motherhood experience.
I’m launching a new service, 1:1 Motherhood Consulting, in which I help mothers make their motherhood better.

Tight hips, quick breaths, bursts of anger, low self-esteem, chronic stress…
If you feel any of this, keep reading 👀
I’m not saying yoga will solve all your problems, but it’s a lovely way to counteract how your problems are stored in your body and felt in your nervous system.
If you are moving through and feeling foggy in your identity, working into your solar plexus, the area that governs confidence, self-esteem, and self-assuredness is just what you need.,
My yoga classes in May at .sandgate will focus on the hip flexors and core, not only to appease tension, pain, stiffness, and misalignment, but also for nervous system regulation and a greater tolerance for stress.
Classes are free for everyone. Check the last slide for the May class timetable, grab a gal pal, and book your spot in the Lift HQ app.
