🇦🇺 Another big challenge starts today! 🇨🇳🎱

Lilly Meldrum begins her Duya U18 Golden 9 Kun League campaign today, joining a massive field of 940 players for almost two weeks of tough competition, with around AUD $22,000 for the champion. We are the only international player in the field, making the journey from Australia to China to take on this challenge.

Chinese snooker legend DING JUNHUI also attended the opening ceremony, making it an even more special start to the event.

For us at Q9, this is about more than just one tournament. We’re working hard to create more opportunities for the next generation of young Australian players — to travel, compete internationally, experience a different level of competition. Someone has to take the first step. Hopefully, Lilly’s journey can encourage more young Aussie players to dream bigger and take on the world. 🇦🇺

How far can we go in a field of 940 players? Let’s find out.

Day 1 starts today. Let’s go!

Waiting for her was Sebastian Chen, who had also made an impressive run through the winners’ side of Stage 1.
The final went Lilly’s way 7–4, bringing the 2026 QLD Open Heyball Championship to a close.

Well played to everyone who competed over the four days. There were plenty of close matches, long battles and some seriously good Heyball throughout the tournament.
A big thank you to all the players, referees, supporters and everyone who helped make the event happen at Q9. ❤️
And of course, congratulations again to Lilly — World Champion in June, Queensland Champion in August. Not a bad couple of months! 😂🏆
See you all at the next one! 🎱🔥

The 2026 Oneida WPA Women’s 8-Ball World Championship has wrapped up, and we’re super proud of our two Q9 players, Bean Hung and Lilly Meldrum, for taking on the world’s best.

👏 Bean had another great run, making the Last 16 and putting together some really strong performances against a stacked international field.
👏 Lilly made her first appearance at the Women’s World 8-Ball Championship. It wasn’t the result she was chasing, but she gained plenty of experience and showed exactly why she’s one of Australia’s brightest young talents. Every world event is another step forward.

🇮🇹 Bean is already on her way to Rome for the 2026 Banca Del Fucino WPA Women’s World 10-Ball Championship.
🇮🇳 Lilly will be heading to India for the 2026 Heyball World Championship, ready for another shot on the world stage.

We’re proud of both of you for wearing the Q9 colours around the world. Thanks to everyone who’s been watching the streams, sending messages, and cheering them on from home.

Good luck in Rome. Good luck in India.
Let’s keep it rolling. 🇦🇺💙🎱

Original Wavy II (3/8-14) converted to Cuetec 9.5mm x 14.
Instead of using a traditional tap, the new internal thread was CNC single-point machined, producing a cleaner, more accurate thread with a more precise fit.

Because the original Wavy II joint has a large and deep internal thread, the entire internal structure had to be removed and rebuilt. Simply installing a smaller insert would leave unsupported voids inside the shaft, reducing both strength and energy transfer.

A custom stepped insert was made with a 15mm rear section to completely fill and reinforce the original cavity, while the front section remains 10mm to maintain proper shaft wall thickness. A 2.5mm load-bearing shoulder was added between the two diameters for extra support, and adhesive retention grooves were machined to maximise bonding strength.

Most of this work is completely hidden once the cue is assembled. It would have been much easier to take shortcuts, and the customer would probably never know.

But that’s not how we work.
A proper conversion isn’t just about making one joint fit another—it’s about rebuilding the cue correctly from the inside out. True craftsmanship is found in the details that no one will ever see.

Not every repair is straightforward.

This break cue shaft sheared off, leaving the broken pin stuck deep inside the butt.

The fix:
✔️ Replaced the shaft joint.
✔️ Carefully extracted the broken section from the butt with zero damage.

Clean repair. Ready for many more breaks. 🎱🔧

🏆 2026 QLD Open 8 Ball Championship 🏆
Another fantastic weekend of pool has come to an end at Q9 Billiards, with 40 players battling it out over two days for the 2026 QLD Open 8 Ball Championship.
The standard of play was outstanding from start to finish. There were very few easy matches all weekend, with many going right down to the deciding rack. Every round was fiercely contested, making this one of the most competitive QLD Open events we've hosted.
Congratulations to Nicholas Pilat, who produced a brilliant performance throughout the knockout stage before defeating Marc Perez 9-5 in the final to become the 2026 QLD Open 8 Ball Champion.
Marc Perez continued his outstanding form after winning the QLD Open 9 Ball Championship just two weeks ago. He backed it up by reaching another final, making it two consecutive QLD Open finals. His consistency keeps him at No.1 in the latest APPA Queensland Rankings, while Nicholas' championship victory moves him into No.2, setting up an exciting race for the remainder of the season.
🏆 Champion – Nick Pilat
🥈 Runner-up – Marc Angelo Perez
🥉 Semi-finalists –Macwin Fernandes & Meng-Hsia Hung
A huge thank you to Australian Pool Players Association for their continued support in growing competitive pool across Queensland, and to LOT Auto for proudly supporting this event. We'd also like to thank all of our referees, staff, volunteers and every player who travelled to Q9 Billiards to compete. Your support is what makes these events possible.
The next QLD Open will be Heyball (Chinese 8 Ball), with the event date to be announced soon. We look forward to seeing everyone back at Q9 for another exciting weekend of competition.
Congratulations once again to all of our winners, and we'll see you at the next QLD Open!
