Reading food labels - Food Allergy Education 22/04/2022

New labelling laws in Australia
🦪🍤🍞🌽
"The new Plain English Allergen Labelling (PEAL) law means that the common names of food allergens must be listed on a food label. (e.g. the word 'egg' rather than just the protein in egg which is 'albumin'). Food companies need to make these labelling changes by 2024, so up until then you will need to know how to read labels that comply with both the new and old laws. Allergy & Anaphylaxis Australia has Food Allergen Cards listing other words for the common allergens and foods the allergens may be in."

Reading food labels - Food Allergy Education It is important to check the food label when buying food every time you purchase the product.

I’ve been doing cooking classes on and off for years amongst working as a full-time PT, studying a bachelor of nutrition and while in London working as a chef.

✅ I’ve always been inspired by Jamie Olivers ‘pay it forward’ motto.

💚 The reasons I love to teach people to cook are many.

One of the main reasons is, cooking needs to be preserved. If we let corporations take care of all our food needs we are doomed. I mean that. What will we be left with.
No diversity. Only eating meat, flour, dairy and tomatoes from a monocrop culture.

Much of it would become refined, shelf stable and devoid of nutrients.

Cultural foods are being lost, especially indigenous AND with dire consequences.

Heritage/ heirloom foods (vegetables, meats) are being lost. Diversity is good for the earth 🌏

Cooking skills are being lost, diluted and bastardised. Not everywhere and not by everyone, but we need to hold the line.

We need to keep balance. Big corporation [BigFood] has it’s place but not in everything and not for everyone. Sure debatable.

🧩 Reasons why you ought to be able to cook:

* Good nutrient dense food is important for fuel and health
* Bulk meal/lunch/dinner prep could be an option for you! (Did you know I meal prep for clients?)
* Learning to cook yourself saves money
* It’s fun
* It can be therapeutic
* You learn how much effort cooking can be and develop an appreciation for chefs which in turn supports chefs (and all involved) livelihoods
* Your partner, family and friends will appreciate it and fall in love with you forever 😉

I’m taking enquiries so please DM me and let me know what exactly you need. There is no silly response to this question. Name it and I’ll tell you if it’s possible.

💚 I’m so blessed to work with so many amazing hard working people. Sometimes I think I’m getting more out of it then my clients.

🧩 I rarely show my clients as a few are famous, many have high profile jobs, and I generally don’t like to ask them for photos or videos. They work hard and get it done though!

✅ This is Dr.M. And he is 51.
Today we did GVT (German volume training) on pull-ups super-setted with Paralette push-ups. That is 10x10 of each exercise. 27mins done ✅

🧩My clients inspire me.
🧩My clients are already successful people.

- they are married
- they are parents
- they are high achievers
- majority are over 40 and 50 and 60!
- they still socialise
- they go out for dinner
- they go on holidays
- they see the value in exercise, strength training, cardiovascular training

✅ with success and a great life it makes people want to enjoy it for as long as possible.

What’s almost as easy as salad?

Frittata 🥚🥚🥚🥚🥚(they’re eggs not aspirin 😉)

✅ Why is a frittata easy for a meal option?

- You can quickly cook up to 12 portions
- It is high in protein and highly nutritious in micronutrients
- You can make it lower in fat by using less yolks
- You can add veggies to it to increase your intake
- You can make it vegetarian
- You can make it lactose free

🧩 My tips:
- Keep it simple with a few (three) flavouring ingredients
- Always use free range if possible organic
- If you can find pastured true free range happy chicken eggs choose them
- Use a non stick frypan with a heat proof handle

What exactly is a frittata?

It is an omelette/ omelet cooked on both sides.
Usually under a grill or in the oven. Simple.

💚 Pictured:
Various images of frittatas I’ve cooked recently.
Ham and cheese
Bacon and cheese
Ham, cheese, spinach, and kale

Can’t cook?
You don’t need to cook to get all your nutrition needs.

💚 Building a salad is literally the easiest thing in the world.

🧩 Why would you want to eat salad?

- You don’t need an experience
- There are no rules to making a salad for you at home
- You never have to cook anything if you don’t want to
- The options or variations are infinite - literally
- They are nutritious and delicious
- They can be super quick
- If you have a fridge you can make it in bulk
- Salad can last for 1-3 days in the fridge
- You can make a salad fit your macros exactly

If I made a salad here everyday for a year I could make a different version every day.

✅ RECIPE:

Leaves (spinach or mesclun, mizuna, watercress iceberg lettuce)
Cherry tomatoes (any tomatoes)
Tin fish (this is salmon pink)
Blueberries (any fruit)
Lentils (any legumes)
Capsicum
Snow peas (Mange tout)
Goji berries
Sultanas (currants, rasins, dates etc.)
Sunflower seeds (pumpkin seeds[pepitas], nuts)
Sriracha
Cucumber
Sun-dried tomatoes
Apple cider vinegar with olive oil (oil is optional)

EVERYTHING IS OPTIONAL. That is the joy of salad.

We've been conditioned to like certain flavours by upbringing, culture, marketing and habit to name a few.

What you like or crave as a flavour may not necessarily be what your body needs.

Broaden your flavour palette and seek out nutrients based on your needs.

Now get used to those flavours and appreciate that the world is not all about just sweet and salty.

You are an organism. Defined as a living system that functions as an individual entity.

You are an individual entity that must take responsibility for everything that your personal living system requires. Period. No buts, no blames, no excuses.

Do you know what true health feels like?

Or,

Do you reduce the definition down to being able to roll out of bed and put one foot in front of the other, as healthy?

All puns intended....Food for thought 💭

Are you being fed a pack of lies about red meat? 25/10/2021

A quick simple read on a little understanding of how we came to believe red meat is supposedly bad for us.

You can't eat a crap diet (that happens to include red meat from any origin), not exercise, drink whatever you want, consume and apply chemicals, nourish with ultra-processed foods and in turn undernourish yourself, take copious amounts of medications and then single out red meat as the 'bad guy' or 'bad [insert identity]'.

It.Doesn't.Make.Logical.Sense.
