MAY DAY! MAY DAY: Matilda May leads Cronulla to Australian Little League Girls Gold Medal in epic pitcher’s duel 🏆

We hereby declare July 11 ‘Matilda May Day’ in Redcliffe.

She was the leading lady in a 2-1 win over West Coast Rays Blue.

The Cronulla Sharks starting pitcher brought her best on the biggest of ocassions.

Her final pitching line: 5.2 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 3 BB, 11 SO. The only hit she conceded was an infield single in the bottom of the last inning as West Coast Blues tried to rally.

The game itself had just three hits. The biggest came off the bat of Haley Bone, who came through with a two-out, two-RBI single in the third inning to score both of Cronulla’s runs.

Bone later struck out the last batter to record the final out.

Who had the other Cronulla base hit? Matilda May.

West Coast Rays Blue pitchers Amelia Castle and Rachel Hosken turned in an excellent combined outing of their own. Castle started, allowing two hits and two runs in 2.0 innings.  Rachel Hosken threw 3.0 hitless, shutout innings with eight strikeouts.

The Rays rallied late. They scored a late run to cut the score to 2-1 and even had the tying run in scoring position. That’s as close as they’d get.

The future is bright! This Little League Girls Game was decided by the narrowest of margins.

ALL TIME EPIC NATIONALS PERFORMANCE FROM 10-YEAR-OLD EMILIA MACLEAN 🚨

This is the face of a newly born Cronulla legend.

Pre-Game situation: Cronulla win, they go to the Gold Medal Game.

In-Game situation: Cronulla down 7-4 in the third with runners on.

Enter Emilia Maclean.

The 10 year old threw 3.0 innings, did not allow a hit or a run, and conceded only one base runner.

She struck out seven.

It allowed Cronulla to stage a dramatic late game comeback.

They scored four runs in the last inning to stun the Seahorses 8-7 and advance to the Gold Medal Game.

Emilia had a game-high two hits and 4 RBI, including the decisive double that scored two in the last.

Cronulla will play for Little League Girls Gold on Saturday afternoon.

Insane stuff. Champion performance.
