🏆 Player Development Program #2 — what a great way to finish our second PDP for the year! 🎉

We were put through our paces during the week with a series of challenging drills and games led by Gordon Giles, one of Australia’s top players. 🎯🏏 His focus on the discipline of practice reminded us that getting better comes from putting in the work — one shot, one decision and one game at a time! 💪

We also enjoyed a valuable refresher on etiquette and the important role of the referee with Deirdre Giles, well known and respected by players throughout the country. Together, they reminded us that good croquet is about much more than hitting good shots — it’s also about respect, discipline and sportsmanship. 👏

Our thanks to Deirdre and Gordon for generously sharing their time, knowledge and enthusiasm. ❤️ And thank you to all the wonderful coaches who have supported our Player Development Programs throughout the year. We’re so fortunate to have such a fabulous croquet community supporting our players. 💚

Now… back to practising! 😄🏏🎯 Better players, better understanding, more enjoyment — and a stronger, more connected croquet community at McIlwraith!

🎉🤍 McIlwraith Croquet Club turns 103! 🤍🎉

What better way to celebrate 103 years of McIlwraith than by honouring one of croquet’s great traditions — wearing the whites! 🤍🥂

And in a wonderful coincidence while celebrating McIlwraith’s birthday, some of our members had the very special honour of wearing their whites on the lawns of The Hurlingham Club — the spiritual home of croquet in England! 🇬🇧🎩🔵🔴

There’s something rather special about standing on those historic lawns, dressed in white, and feeling connected to the generations of players who have enjoyed this wonderful generations before us.

From McIlwraith 103 years ago to Hurlingham today — the traditions of croquet continue. 🤍🌿

Happy 103rd Birthday, McIlwraith! 🎂🎉
Long may we wear the whites! 🤍🏏

🌱 Getting down into the w**ds! 🌱

At McIlwraith, we don’t just play on our lawns… we get down and dirty for them too! 😄

Inspired by one of our past Presidents, who believed that doing w**d patrol was an essential part of her job description, our members are taking matters into their own hands… quite literally! 😂

Armed with their trusty daisy forks, they’ve been getting right into the w**ds and giving our lawns some much-needed TLC — just in time for spring. 🌼

💙 Five Presidents. More than 25 years of leadership. One very special Club. 💙

What a wonderful moment at our recent AGM, bringing together five McIlwraith Presidents whose service spans from 1999 to today. 🌟

Each has helped shape McIlwraith in their own way — building on the work of those before them and helping ensure our Club continues to grow and thrive. 🌱🏑

👏 More than a quarter of a century of leadership, service and commitment to McIlwraith Croquet Club — captured in one very special photo! 📸💚

🚶‍♀️🏏 Walking the line!

Not something you see every day on a croquet lawn! 😂

Guest coach and mentor, Greg Kerswell, had us walking the lawns for the opening session of our second keenly attended Player Development Program for the year…swinging our mallets and getting a feel for the plumb line — a great warm-up exercise and another example of why there are basics… and then there are basics! 👏

Who knew warming up for croquet could look quite so… purposeful? 😜

Thanks, Greg, for encouraging us think and move with positivity! 🥰

🏆 Shield, smiles & a little bit of friendly rivalry! 😄
The Annual Windsor Croquet Club Golf Croquet Shield was played today, with competitors battling it out in a Block of 4 Double Round Robin format.

A big McIlwraith shout-out to Graham Young, runner-up in Block B! 👏🏆

And in a lovely bit of Shield history… Peter Nicholson and Penny Jackson from McIlwraith were the inaugural winners when the Shield began back in 2015!

To our wonderful Windsor croquet friends — thank you for the fantastic support and warm hospitality. Another day proving that croquet is competitive… but the friendships are the real prize! 👏👏

A fantastic final full of cheering, competitive spirit and great sportsmanship — croquet at its best! 🎉🏑

Thanks to all our wonderful supporters for cheering from the sidelines, and a special thanks to Penny Jackson for refereeing. 📣👏

🏆 PRESIDENT’S CUP — DOWN TO THE FINALS! 🏆

And then there were… the finalists! 🎉 Tomorrow, Steve O’Hare and Charles Mitchell play the final of our President’s Cup after a week of committed, competitive and thoroughly enjoyable croquet. 🥰🏑

With 27 members taking part, it’s been fantastic to see some of our newer and emerging players giving a few of the experienced hands a very healthy nudge!

And we reckon there might just be something to the old saying… partners who compete against each other stay together! Our photos provide proof! 📸😉

Good luck to our finalists tomorrow — may the best player win! 🏆🍀

🦅 A bird’s-eye view of McIlwraith today! 🦅

We had a very special visitor today — a Globemaster doing a dress rehearsal for Riverfire and enjoying a bird’s-eye view of the action on our lawns! 👀🏏

A great day of games as we get ourselves ready for the finals of our President’s Cup competition on Saturday. 💪☀️

Not sure who had the better view… but we definitely had the better lawns! 😉🌿
