This shot taken by captures the dramatic and rugged landscape of the Tassy coastline in the background as our little Azzurro was heading south to the finish line.
Not far from Maria Island at this point the crew of Azzurro was settling in for one last night (30th December 23’) at sea. The wind was hard on the nose and we were pushing hard to make incremental gains towards Tasman Island.
Looking forward to getting these developed into prints to capture a moment in time, that would otherwise be lost.

Now that the dust has settled, it’s time to recap on what has been the most amazing Sydney to Hobart campaign for the Azzurro crew. The Sydney to Hobart campaign began in April, after a conversation with good friend about pulling together a young and diverse crew to compete in the . After many months of preparations including countless hours of boat work, paperwork, logistics planning, training and meetings we got ourselves to the start line in Sydney which is a feat in itself alone…
We were extremely happy to cross the line on the afternoon of the 31st ahead of the NYE celebrations. Whilst it was not the result we would have liked placement wise, I am incredibly proud of the crew and the boat for how well they handled what was a challenging race. Being one of the smallest boats in the fleet, we really do feel the tough conditions harder and also for longer than a lot of the other boats.
During the race we saw mostly heavy upwind VMG sailing, with relentless wind from the South. Peak wind strengths in the order of 35-40 knots and 4-5m seas was the worst we saw. This was coupled with a few periods of no wind - frustrating to say the least!! Unfortunately the conditions were not great for our little boat to place well overall, and the smaller slower boats got a wack on the nose from passing fronts on the last day heading down the Tasmanian Coastline.
Congratulations to all our crew!!!
It was truly awesome to race for a greater purpose this year being to support the . The work that they do is phenomenal and we hope that one lasting part of our campaign will be to have raised awareness for this valuable cause.
Finally to our amazing sponsors, we simply could not have done the race without your unwavering support!
