Last Saturday night saw the annual Easts Hockey Trivia Night return to the clubhouse, combining brainpower, banter and a few questionable game-show moments.

The evening was expertly MC'd by newly crowned Hockey Queensland Life Member Gil Voysey from our Masters 5s team, who kept proceedings moving, the scores honest, and the crowd entertained.

It was a night for young and old alike, as players who had spent the afternoon displaying their hockey skills returned a few hours later to demonstrate their knowledge of sport, history, music, movies and assorted useless facts.

The competition was fierce, with just 2.5 points separating first and fourth place heading into the final stages. Every answer mattered.

In the end, last year's champions, successfully defended their title. Whether it was preparation, experience, teamwork or their reported decision to remain remarkably sober throughout the day to keep their minds sharp and alert, we'll leave for others to decide.

As they say in Veigy-Foncenex, les champions restent les champions.

Congratulations to the Winners on going back-to-back, and thank you to everyone who attended and helped make it another fantastic night of laughs, friendly rivalry and club spirit.

A fun night. A great club. Well done, everyone.

The Div 1 Men took on St Andrews in the annual Fish Cup clash down at TigerTurf.

After piling on 30-odd goals in their previous three matches, the Tigers were brought back down to earth by a fired-up Saints outfit determined to make them earn every metre.

Goals were suddenly much harder to come by. In fact, there were no field goals at all. Both keepers produced some absolute doozies to keep their sides in the contest, with saves that had supporters applauding and strikers scratching their heads.

In the end, it came down to Penalty Corners. The Tiges converted two. The Saints converted one. That's all she wrote.

The Fish Cup is contested annually between Easts and St Andrews in memory of Darryl Richards β€” "Fish" β€” who proudly represented both clubs. Darryl was one of three hockey-playing brothers: Darryl, Greg and Warren.

Following the match, the Cup was presented to Easts captain Tom Wycherley by Fish's son Murray and his family.

A hard-fought game, played in great spirit, and a fitting tribute to a much-respected hockey man.

Final Score: 2 - 1

Our Div 1 Ladies continue to build momentum.

Following some impressive recent performances, the Tiges took on St Andrews down at TigerTurf and produced another polished display.

The Ladies kept the back door firmly locked, giving the Saints few opportunities, while at the other end their sharp attacking play kept the St Andrews defence under constant pressure throughout the match.

It was a composed and confident performance, with the Tiges controlling much of the match, and celebrating a special milestone for one of their own - Jill Gohdes 150th Brisbane Division 1 match.

Not only did Jill lead the youngsters from the front on the field, she repeated the feat at the Tigers Quiz Night later that evening. What a gal!

Final Score: 4 - 0

150 DIV 1 GAMES | JILLY GOHDES πŸ–€πŸ’›

20 years ago, Jill Gohdes (née Dwyer) made her Easts Division 1 debut. ⭐️

A move to Perth, followed by time overseas, saw Jill spend nine years away from the Tigers. Upon her return, she picked up right where she left off, continuing to make her mark in the yellow and black while also becoming a Gohdes and raising four beautiful boys.

Across two decades, Jill’s impact on her teammates, our Division 1 program and the wider club has been immeasurable. She is the epitome of what it means to be a captain, teammate and Tiger, leading with commitment, selflessness and heart. 🐯✨

We could not be prouder of Jill and this incredible milestone. Congratulations on 20 years of Division 1 hockey! πŸ‘πŸ‘

Thank you for everything you have given to Easts. Once a Tiger, always a Tige 🐯πŸ’ͺ

Our Div 1 Men were not in a particularly generous mood against Kedron Wavell on Purple Day at TigerTurf.

After dropping their first points of the season the previous weekend in a pulsating 4–4 draw with UQ, the boys clearly decided that enough sharing had been done for one month.

During the week they balanced the ledger with an emphatic 8–0 win over Commercial, although the Penalty Corner conversion rate was still causing mild concern among the Tiger faithful. Across those two matches, the lads had managed β€˜only’ 4 goals from 18 Penalty Corners, with drag flick specialist Skip Hawthorne barely troubling the Tech Bench.

Well… that changed on Saturday.

Skip hit a genuine Purple Patch on Purple Day and absolutely had the Tech Bench working overtime β€” troubling them no fewer than six times: five PC Goals and one Green Card for administrative completeness.

The Tiges were fast, furious and relentless, converting a remarkable 8 goals from 10 Penalty Corners in a clinical attacking display.

As they say in Veigy-Foncenex … quelle dΓ©molition.

Final Score: Easts 12 – Kedron Wavell 0

If last week’s gritty 2–2 draw with Commercial brought smiles, then this week brought outright shrieks of delight as the Tiges kept the momentum rolling against a side that has long proved a thorn in our side β€” Kedron Wavell β€” on Purple Day down at TigerTurf.

The match burst into life early, with Easts striking in just the 3rd minute. But the Wolves responded strongly, turning the tables to take a 2–1 lead into halftime.

What followed was pure Tiger spirit.

The Ladies lifted another gear in the second half, surging home with three unanswered goals in a memorable comeback victory. Sophie Davis led the charge, scoring both the opening goal and the final dagger as TigerTurf found its voice.

β€œThree unanswered goals. Purple Day. TigerTurf roaring.
Bravo les filles!”
