We are heartened to read the revised report on e-mobility. It includes some significant changes to provide pathways for people with disability or medical restrictions to continue to ride e-bikes or e-trikes, even when older.

The report's release informs the LNP party room and although these recommendations do not go far enough in our opinion to support children with disabilities, we hope they will be cause for healthy debate.

We are therefore hopeful. But this is not yet law. Regardless of what others have posted, these recommendations inform the parliament but we have to wait to know the true weight of the law. There is still time to approach your LNP representative on behalf of children under 16 who are unable to ride a standard bike. And to ensure the carve outs protect people of all ages and all abilities in all of Queensland.

But we are hopeful....

Another gathering to protest some of the 28 recommendations tabled as part of the Parliamentary Inquiry into e-mobility.

We caught up with the peleton on the Story Bridge after a mad dash from the shop, just in time to share the experience and celebrate riding in all its shapes and forms.

Tomorrow we find out what the future holds.

Congratulations again to the organisers who put their heart, soul and time into making things happen. Thank you.

Could another of the unintended consequences be the spotlight placed well and truly on those riders for whom their adaptive e-bike or e-trike has changed their life.

People like Helen.
She just wants to ride with her family.

Why on earth would we deny her that joy when the culprits are e-motorbike riders?

Blanket speed limits of 10km/h for riders of safe, legal pedal-assist e-bikes on footpaths and shared paths will make utility cycling impractical, and there’s no evidence it would improve safety for pedestrians. We hope the state government will focus on tackling the problems caused by people who sell and ride illegal electric motorcycles, rather than people like Helen, who recently shared her story via EveryBody Electric Bikes:

---
"I am writing this as someone whose life has been genuinely changed by access to an e-bike. I live with cerebral palsy. My body doesn’t always allow me to move through the world in the same way others can. There are limits, barriers and moments where I have to sit on the sidelines, however my e-bike has given me something rare and powerful, the ability to feel ‘normal’.

When I am riding my compliant e-bike, I am not defined by my disability; I am a parent riding with my family, I am part of my community and have a sense of independence. My bike has allowed me to do things many people take for granted. I can now ride alongside my children (not staying home by myself), getting out in the community without relying on others, and being active in a way that supports both my physical and mental health. It gives me freedom, dignity, and connection. That is not something easily replaced.

The proposed reduction in speed might seem minor on paper, but for riders like me, it is not. Dropping speeds to 10km/h will not make riding safer, it risks doing the opposite. Maintaining a certain level of momentum is essential for balance and stability, particularly for people with physical challenges. Slower speeds could make riding feel unstable, unsafe, and ultimately not viable.

What is being proposed risks taking away something that has given me and others a sense of independence and belonging. E-bikes are not just recreational devices for everyone. For some of us they are a lifeline. Please consider the real human impact of these changes on people like me who rely on e-bikes not just for convenience, but for inclusion, health, and quality of life.

Well said! On Thursday, we will be gathering in Martin St, Fortitude Valley to ride as a group across the Story Bridge in support of safe, legal, e-bikes in the hope the state government will pay attention, and make changes to their proposed legislation so people like Helen will be able to keep riding safely.
