It was a good day for a good run at the Noosa half marathon on Saturday.
Got myself a PB with a time of 1:39:27.
Didn’t know what to expect as I hadn’t done many long runs this year and only decided 4 weeks a go to jump into this event as a ticket became available.
I’ve had a pretty busy start to 2026 with work, kids and with my training focus being on Hyrox and while I felt I had been running quite well I really didn’t know where the body would be across 21.1km.
So I took a bit of pressure off myself, decided to just go in and turn the legs over and have a bit of fun. The night prior to the run I carb loaded. Ate a big bowl of home made spaghetti bolognese. Pre race I got up at 5am and had 2 coffees, orange juice, toast and honey oats to make sure I was good to go.
From the gun I started with a solid pace and I felt my heartrate was nice and steady which allowed me to sit into the run and enjoy it the best I could. Early on in the race I had a few people I could pace with which certainly made it easier as I didn't need to keep checking my watch for my speed. The body was complying and I only got a bit achy through the ankles and knees with 1.6km to go. It was always going to happen at some point as 21.1km is a long way but I was so thrilled it happened late in the race. When I crossed the finish line I felt a real sense of fulfilment and happiness, like all the hard work had paid off. It’s a great feeling to achieve personal bests!!
Thank you to the MissFitters for all the cheers out there on the course. I did have my focus face on but I still heard your callouts which kept me going so thanks.
At 50 years of age I remind myself of the following quote when I think about doing my personal best.
“If you are persistent you will get it. If you are consistent you will keep it.”

Body recomposition is the process of reducing body fat while maintaining, or building - lean muscle mass. It’s what most people really mean when they say:
“I want to tone up.”
“I want shape.”
“I want to feel stronger.”
“I want to lose body fat but not look skinny.”
When you resistance train consistently, eat adequate protein and fuel your body properly, you’re giving yourself the best possible chance of preserving muscle while reducing body fat.
Muscle preservation matters because muscle supports strength, metabolism, movement quality and long-term weight management. Building and maintaining lean muscle also improves body composition over time.

This is why a diet and exercise program in winter is a great idea!
1. You’re not happy with where you are NOW. Give yourself the time to do it properly. If you start now, you will skip the sudden crash diet when the weather warms up and you want to fit into your lighter wardrobe.
