Valiant Defensive Systems teaches effective self defence and personal safety.

At Valiant Krav Maga, we teach practical, real-world self-defence skills for everyday people, as well as specialised training for law enforcement, military, and security personnel. We teach Krav Maga, the Close Quarters Combat system developed for the Israeli defence and security forces, and complement this instruction with our background in combat sports.

Another Monday of steady training at Valiant Krav Maga 👊

Last Monday, our students practised striking techniques, building coordination, control and confidence while supporting one another throughout the class.

These selected photos capture part of the evening’s training and progress. It was also special to see two father-and-son pairs training together—a reminder that Krav Maga can bring generations together, while every person’s training journey is valuable in its own way.

While these photos show striking practice, Krav Maga also develops broader personal-safety skills such as situational awareness, staying calm under pressure, creating safe distance and moving away from danger.

Whether you are experienced or completely new, you are welcome to train with us in a practical and supportive environment.

🥋 From Student to Instructor

This month marks a significant milestone for VKM.

After years of consistent training, learning, and personal development, Lisa, Brenton, and Shane have successfully completed the Krav Maga Global (KMG) General Instructor Course and are now qualified KMG Instructors.

Becoming an instructor is about far more than technical skill. It requires commitment, perseverance, a willingness to serve others, and the courage to continue learning and growing.

We are proud of what each of them has achieved and grateful for the example they have set through their dedication to training and their support of fellow students.

As VKM continues to grow, we are excited to see them step into this new role and help develop the next generation of students. We look forward to seeing the positive impact you will have on our students and community in the years ahead.

Congratulations, Lisa, Brenton, and Shane on this significant achievement.

👏 Well done and welcome to the instructor team.

📸 VKM Practitioner Grading – June 2026

Every grading tells a story.

On 13 June, 19 VKM students stepped onto the grading floor to test themselves, apply what they had learned, and challenge themselves over four hours of grading.

A grading is more than a test of techniques. It is an opportunity to step outside our comfort zone, remain calm under pressure, and continue growing through the learning process. While the day was certainly challenging, it was also filled with learning, encouragement, and plenty of smiles along the way.

A special mention to Drew and Suzy, who both stepped onto the grading floor in their 60s. Their willingness to keep learning, challenging themselves, and embracing the process was an encouragement to us all.

Thank you to everyone who graded, helped run the day, and came along to support and encourage others.

👏 Well done, everyone.

🚨 VKM Student Uses Krav Training During Real-Life Knife Threat 🚨

Former VKM student Nancy recently faced a real-life knife threat during an attempted carjacking — and the training she received at VKM helped her stay calm, respond, and stay safe.

In Nancy’s own words:
“Because I have trained in Krav Maga, I was able to dismantle the knife.”

Moments like this remind us that practical self-defence skills can truly make a difference in real life.

⬇️ From real news footage, to Nancy sharing laughs with the VKM family, to the realistic knife-defence training we practise in some of our classes — this is why we train.

Groundwork fundamentals 👊

Just a few moments captured from class as students begin preparing for the KMG Practitioner Level 1 & 2 grading coming up in June at VKM.

This video includes some instructor demonstrations of movement, recovery, tactical stand-up, breakfalls, and escapes from the ground.

Taught by our KMG Expert Level 2 Instructor.

Just catching up on sharing some pictures from one of our North Brisbane classes right after the Easter holiday period 🌴

With some senior students away and others still on holiday, the session was still full of learning, effort, laughs, and good energy 👊

Sometimes the quieter sessions create more opportunities to refine details, ask questions, and support one another through the learning process.

At VKM, we believe consistency over time is what builds confidence, capability, and resilience 🙌

Thanks to Ricardo Toribio for capturing these moments 📸

Control. Redirect. Counterattack. 👊

What happens when stress levels rise and decisions need to be made in seconds?

Recently, our beginner and intermediate students had the opportunity to pressure test high-risk firearm defence scenarios under the guidance of Krav Maga Global Master Instructor Rune Lind, who flew in from Norway, supported by Valiant Krav Maga’s Brisbane-based Expert Instructor Pillar Eng and Assistant Instructor Stephen Mahoney from Krav Maga Melbourne. Students greatly appreciated not only the depth of knowledge and experience shared throughout the training, but also the instructors’ ability to create a disciplined yet approachable training environment that encouraged students to push themselves while feeling supported throughout the process 👊

Training under pressure helps us develop more than techniques — it teaches us to stay functional under stress, work through fear, and keep moving forward 👊

Huge respect to every student who stepped outside their comfort zone and gave their full effort throughout the training. One thing we love about the training environment at Valiant Krav Maga is seeing people from different backgrounds, fitness levels, and stages of life learning and growing together.

Whether you’re completely new to self-defence training, fitness, or combat sports, our classes are beginner-friendly and designed to help everyday people train safely and progressively together.

Defending Firearm Threats

For many of our VKM students, this was their first time training in this area on Day 2 of the Brisbane Training Camp.

Learning not just what to do — but how to think, stay calm, and respond under pressure in high-risk situations.

This session brought together understanding how fi****ms work with practical defence — turning knowledge into application.

These situations are rare, but when they happen, knowing what to do matters.

We’re grateful to have Rune Lind join us from Norway — a KMG Master Level Instructor with 25+ years of experience and an active military member — bringing real-world depth to the training.

What happens when training meets reality? This is where it counts.

Day 2 of our Brisbane Training Camp ended with high-pressure scenario sessions — combining:
• Firearm threat defence
• Family protection skills
• Trauma management

Participants had to think fast, act decisively, and perform under pressure — not just know techniques, but apply them when it matters most.

⚠️ All scenarios are conducted in a controlled, safety-focused training environment using simulated equipment.

👇 This demonstration is led by VKM lead instructor Pillar. More VKM student demonstrations coming soon.

The real question is — would you know what to do?
