Showjumping Championships
The third Sydney Festival Showjumping Championships were held in 1982, and promoted in the program was the winning team from the 1981 International Teams Trophy at this festival - Australia!
Ireland won in 1980, then the Australian team of (l to r) Guy Creighton (horse not named), Jeff McVean (Arrest and Trial) and Gavin Chester (Lancaster) took it the next year.
Teams were all to ride B Grade horses, with overseas teams loaned horses for the event, with one day for familiarisation. With the cost of horses now, one wonders if this would still happen.
In 1983, the teams were to be from Canada, Switzerland, Australia and a composite International team featuring Nelson Pessoa (father of Rodrigo, also a superstar) of Brazil.
Does someone recall the name of Guy's horse, or can ask him?
(Psst . . . we used to know this as the Benson and Hedges Championships in the days of to***co sport sponsorship).

Just Call Me Jumper Girl: Being Brave Enough to Try a New Ring in My 60s - The Plaid Horse Magazine It was one of those occasional, beautiful northeast summer mornings. Though it was early August, the temperature was low, there was zero humidity and the sky was a cloudless blue. I stood in a perfectly manicured field looking over the deep green grass punctuated by jumps of bright colors and shapes...

Ribbons are lovely mementos and symbols, but be careful... when you allow ribbons to tell you if you have done a good job, then their absence will try to tell you that it was bad. And that is never the whole story.
Although one mistake can deny you a ribbon, one mistake cannot negate the positive growth, teamwork and joy that exists in every single ride. Always carry your own goals and progress closest to your heart. ๐๐๐
