Our Story

Leading the preservation of Goju Ryu Karate in Brisbane, through strong links with Japan, Shihan delivers adult based training in:
Karate: Japan Karatedo Federation Goju Kai (we a part of Goju Ryu Karatedo Seiwakai)
Taijutsu: Shinto Tenshin Ryu and Asayama Ichiden Ryu
Hishigijutsu: Asayama Ichiden Ryu (Hassun Hishigi) and Shinto Tenshin Ryu (Tanbo)

Our training methods are geared towards practical application of karate technique. We embrace meaningful partner work that sensibly brings together impacting, joint hyper extension and rotation, off-balancing and throwing, grappling, ground control, and some limited air and blood deprivation techniques. Our kobudo incorporates the smaller and highly versatile weapons - hassun hishigi and the tanbo - to work impacting and nerve crushing techniques.

We hope that people will enjoy their training with us, drawing benefits from improved physical capacities, knowledge gains and social interaction. We understand that adults of all ages, interests and life settings come to our dojo to get active and to do something positive for themselves. People up to their mid-60’s enjoy regular training with us.

We are not here to try and conquer the world, but to be on the dojo floor with those people as we all better understand and develop ourselves through training. We are always training, always looking to improve, and always welcoming of others who just want to pursue Our Story as well.
