SAW has gained another official branch dojo.

Susumu Kamiya, who had been running his own dojo after training at the SAW Japan “So Hon Zan 総本山”, has returned to SAW as the branch chief of the SAW Tokyo Setagaya branch.

Therefore, his dojo has been officially recognised as a branch of the International Submission Arts Wrestling Federation, and a branch certification has been issued by SAW world headquarters in Australia.

I remember him coming to Australia and training with me and practicing diligently. Therefore, I believe he will train excellent SAW students in the future.

I have received a message from him:

"Inheriting the spirit of Shihan Hidetaka A*o, and under the guidance of Daihyo Shihan Ito, Sensei Yanai, and Sensei Kano, I will contribute to the global development of SAW.
In the near future, I hope to train fighters from the Tokyo Setagaya branch and visit the headquarters in Brisbane. Also, if you ever come to Japan, I would be delighted if you would visit the Tokyo Setagaya branch. Thank you for your continued support."

His dojo is located in Tokyo, and the instructor is Takamichi Kouda, a two-time winner of the SAW All Japan Tournament.

In Japan, May 5th is a national holiday called "Children's Day 子供の日”

This day is dedicated to wishing for the healthy growth and happiness of children.

On this day, it's customary to display samurai armor and helmets “Yoroi Kabuto 鎧兜” in homes.

This tradition stems from the fact that “Yoroi Kabuto 鎧兜” were crucial pieces of equipment for samurai, protecting their lives.

Therefore, the “Yoroi Kabuto 鎧兜” serve as a protective charm, shielding children from illness and accidents, and expressing the wish that they will grow up strong and resilient, overcoming difficulties like samurai.

To help children grow into such strong, resilient, and kind individuals, it would be wonderful if many children practiced martial arts.

We held our in-house SAW sparring competition again this week.
Everyone has improved and showed off some great skills.

This video shows a seminar held last month at the SAW “So Hon Zan 総本山” dojo in Japan for SAW students, branch chiefs, and instructors.
It was a meaningful seminar where we all reaffirmed in our hearts that SAW in Japan can continue to move forward even after the passing of A*o Sensei.

We held an "In-house SAW Sparring Competition” this week.
This sparring competition had several purposes: to put everyone under more pressure than usual by turning the sparring we normally do in SAW class into a competition format, to help them improve mentally, to test the results of their daily training, to get used to the SAW competition rules, and to earn points for grading.
Everyone did their best. Well done.
