The Brisbane Golf Club

The 4th edition of The Celebration Cup was contested today between Toowoomba (Middle Ridge) Golf Club & The Brisbane Golf Club at BGC. Faced with a stunning Spring afternoon the golf was an absolute pleasure, with some amazing scoring to match. Past BGC Club Champion & now Head Professional at Toowoomba Brenton Fowler led the way for his club with a stunning 5 under par 67 for 37 Stableford points & the best TGC male score. BGC Junior Member Chase Oberle continued his recent hot form though to shoot an impressive 7 under par 65 for 38 points. He also claimed the leading BGC male honours. TGC member Carmel Macdermott scored 33 points to be leading female for TGC & another BGC Junior Member Allanah Factor claimed the leading female for BGC with 35 points. The Celebration Cup is awarded to the Club with the best total Stableford points for their leading 25 players on the day. As has been the case in each event so far the host Club has claimed victory with BGC winning back the Cup 794-719 points. Today the Club hosted the Men’s Yeerongpilly Cup and Women’s Brisbane Cup, both OOM Merit events.

BGC Member Billy Dowling shot a -5 67 to claim his 3rd win in the event becoming the first player to do so in an event that was first played in 1927.

Keperra’s Mikayla Dyal (79) won the Brisbane Cup after making eagle on the first playoff hole against Jazarah Kamu.

Our bi-annual On Course Rules session was held this afternoon, once again hosted by our esteemed Life Member Peter Castrisos. 30+ Members were in attendance to gain a better understanding of how the Rules of Golf apply specifically to our golf course. A special thanks to Peter for his continued support of the program.

We are very excited to announce that BGC has won the 2024 BDGA Div 1 Pennant. This is the Club’s third title in a row and the fifth over the past six seasons played.

This Sunday, the Club will play the final round of the 2024 season and we would like to encourage as many members as possible to come out and support the team. Following the matches all members are welcome to attend an end of season celebratory lunch in the Tennyson Room/Member’s Lounge. Lunch and selected drinks will be provided complimentary. Matches will commence from 7am from Hole 1 (Opens) and Hole 12 (Masters followed by the Juniors).

Our annual Junior High Performance Golf Olympics were contested this afternoon. The Junior HP students were joined by BGC Members Lawry Flynn & Chris Somerfield to test their skills across the 8 event schedule. The students each came up with various golf & athletic tests & earned points for each depending on their rank. For the third time in four years Harvey Palmer proved consistency was the key to the Gold medal finishing on 615 points, followed by Lawry Flynn on 565 points (Silver) & Chase Oberle on 640 points (Bronze). Congratulations Harvey!
