Commercial Rowing Club Est in 1877, we are Queensland's premier rowing club and home to Australian rowing champions. See our calendar for learn-to-row sessions.

We have over 200 club members ranging in age from 16 to 76, and we offer a variety of rowing programs including; learn to row, social rowing, school rowing, corporate rowing and competitive rowing. LEARN TO ROW – we provide coaching for people who want to learn how to row. SOCIAL ROWING – we provide coaching for beginner rowers who only wish to ‘go for a paddle’ (this is subject to crew availability). SCHOOL GIRL/BOY ROWING – we provide coaching for school girl and boy rowers (14 years of age upwards) for on-water and off-water fitness during the off-season. CORPORATE ROWING – we provide coaching for corporate rowing crews participating in the club’s annual Crewsin’ the Stream Corporate Rowing Regatta. COMPETITIVE ROWING – we aim to develop our rowers at both elite and master level performing at local, state, national and international rowing regattas.

He arrives at the shed without any fanfare. The man can row – he’s been a member of our winning HoTY master men’s crew for the past 3 years.

He’s also a celebrated musician - meet Simon Gardner.

As a freelance guitarist, Simon works with many artists across different genres, performing at different venues and functions. Most notably, Joe Satriani, Christine Anu and Tony Award-winning John Cameron Mitchell.

He’s also a songwriter, singer and artist who has produced 6 instrumental guitar albums and numerous singles. His favourite genre is rock.

“I remember hearing Led Zeppelin for the first time - it was an overpowering experience that I found compelling.”

As fate would have it, Simon is now performing as Jimmy Page in a Led Zeppelin show, with first gigs kicking off in Sydney in October.

“It’s been a wonderful experience doing a deep dive on the music that has been a constant in my life since those formative years.”

Simon has just released his new single called ‘The Fighter’.

It was 1977.

And it was Warana time! 💃🏻

More than just a festival, it was a celebration of Brisbane’s identity, creativity and spirit. It was something that everyone could be a part of 🥳

Families gathered to watch an endless procession of colourful floats, marching bands and a beauty pageant to crown Miss Warana!

It was also our club’s 100th anniversary 🍾

What better way to celebrate this milestone than to design our very own float and take part in the magic of Warana 😍

It was surprisingly chilly for the Head of the Brisbane last Saturday - the final hit-out before crews head south for the annual Head of the Yarra.

🥇 Not surprisingly, our master men’s D crew turned the heat up to win their division. Coxed by Edwina Luck they’re also the reigning HoTY MMD8+ champions, having won their division for the past 3 years! 💪

Do they dare dream of a 4-peat? 🔥

No club has extended that streak to 4 straight years in the same masters division of Australia’s premier 8km river classic.

Will CRC be the first club to enter the history books for achieving the impossible? They’re certainly looking good on the water!

Time will tell, but we will all be cheering our lads on from the banks.

🙌 She’s at it again, this time in Qingdao, China for the 2026 World Rowing Coastal Championships!

Sami Blanchard is an absolute powerhouse on the open ocean and it’s evident just how much she loves competing in the coastal and beach sprint events. 

As the 2024 Australian representative for the World Rowing Coadtal Championship, it’s no surprise that Sami has made the A final for the Women’s Solo event.

We are so proud to see her representing CRC in the international arena.

The championships will be streamed live on the World Rowing website from 12 - 13 October, bringing viewers all the action from Qingdao’s Golden Beach.

At 13 years old, he rowed at Brisbane SHS in the U14 6th 4+ and finished last in most of his races. But he loved every minute of it! 

⭐️ Meet Ralph Cruickshank. 

Ralph joined CRC soon after and learned how to scull. It wasn’t long before he was doing multiple training sessions in his scull after school and on weekends. 

Later that year, he won the U13 1x at the Qld underage sculling champs. 

At 15 years old, Ralph went to his first Qld Rowing Championship in Rockhampton. He won the Junior LW 1x and finished 2nd to Duncan Free in the Junior 1x. 

“I started to think ‘I could actually do this!’” 

Just 3 years later, Ralph won bronze in the 2x at the 1993 World Junior Rowing Championships. 

“I have fond memories of many great training sessions on the Brisbane River on sunny mornings. When the water was good, I used to head downstream towards New Farm, Teneriffe and beyond on a Saturday morning”. 

“I live in South Australia now and table tennis is my new sport. But I would certainly love to head out on the water if I find myself in Brisbane again.”

It was customary during these times to head to the local pub for a refreshing ale after some hard racing at the regional regattas 😋

In this particular photo, CRC members were Paul Eastman, Norm H***e, Greg Neil, Glen Fitzgerald and Tony Yorkston.

The chosen beverage was always ###X - a full endorsement for its advertisement ‘Its quality never varies’. A mighty crew aspiration indeed! 🍻

An aspiration also surely taken to heart by Norm H***e (2nd from left) as he volunteered to audit the books of Commercial Rowing Club and Rowing Qld for the next 50 years!
