We are adding a bit of depth to our Jiu Jitsu group at the moment, and all are well deserved.

This one is a pretty big one. A brown belt in BJJ is no easy feat to learn, and it is a major stepping stone in the journey to black, because the rank encompasses so much more than the physical ability of their Jiu Jitsu. That is very important still, but now at brown we really start to move their focus not just on a physical level, but now on a bit of a "big picture" level.

In short.... Whether they mean to be or not, they are now a mentor. They are a benchmark, and they need to focus on being that inside and out, on and off the mats.

They will be approached more than ever now for guidance, feedback, or answers they may not know straight away. They have all the information they need, because they have it all inside of them already, learned from all the years they have put in already, and now they begin to give back. They get to develop even more all those around them, and while they are making themselves better, the whole room (including me) improves with them.

Well done to Gareth, because he meets all of these "criteria" and I know will not take this new role "lightly".

I can't wait to see where he goes from here.
