Inside hip rotation, speed stop & toe tap workout π¨
An inside hip rotation is a great footwork to utilise to encroach into a defenders space accessing your drop. Theres a lot of talk about separation but sometimes getting closer to your defender is whatβs necessary to create a blow by. π
Speed stops are an essential way to decelerate in basketball. You should be stopping on a dime, inside-outside (feet shoulder width), & finishing in a stacked posture capable of changing directions and/or shooting affectively. πͺπΌ
Toe taps are quick steps under your hips on the balls of your feet and toes allowing you to create separation and new angles. π
This is an advanced workout. Execute each drill for 5-10 minutes for a 25-50 minute workout. Be sure to execute on both sides for skill balance. π

Execute slides 1-3 for β5 minutes each drill for a β15 minute handle & footwork warmup. π
Execute slides 4-6 for 2 minutes followed by 2 freethrows (miss or make) during a 30 second break. I suggest going at least 2 sets each side (β 10 minute segments per slide). Be sure to execute going both directions/sides. π

1. SL foot replacement + skip through (hip angles focus) β
2. Continuous skip through (zig zag) + dribble step timing + finish β

4. Alley-way 1v1. β
Start from opposite 3pt line, execute 3 skip throughs with token defence, and after the third skip through its live. Offence must stay in alley-way (between both lane lines the entire possession). ***not filmed***
Skipping is an essential footwork needed for players all levels. Skips allow players to transition into specific footwork (in this case a drop). π
This skip exchange should be one of the first directional changes players learn to master. π―
If you canβt decelerate and change directions with βliftedβ feet, itβs fools gold to believe you are going to be affective with more advanced βgroundedβ footwork. π

5. ***not filmed*** live play through foot switches: 1v1 to 3v3 build up. Offence start with a clear angle downhill with defender on hip, execute drag + foot switch. Once the foot switch is executed the play is live. 3v3 we put players in different positions focusing on spacing concepts.
When to useβdefenders feet are split line of your body & outside your frame. Theres a definite angle to burst into downhill. However, your inside foot is forward requiring foot switch to affectively accelerate into angle π
