β€οΈπ As we move through the season, we would like to remind all parents and spectators of the important role umpires play in our game and the expectations we have around sideline behaviour.
Netball simply cannot be played without umpires.
Each week, our umpires give their time and effort to ensure games can take place, and they deserve the respect and support of everyone involved.
Like players, coaches and officials, umpires are human. Players may occasionally step, drop a pass, miss a shot or make an error in judgement. Similarly, umpires may not see every infringement, may miss a call or may occasionally make a mistake. This is a normal part of sport.
We ask all parents and spectators to:
β’ Respect all umpiring decisions, even when you disagree with them.
β’ Refrain from questioning, criticising or commenting on umpiring decisions from the sideline.
β’ Allow coaches to coach and players to play.
β’ Encourage all players, not just your own child.
β’ Demonstrate positive sportsmanship at all times.
Please remember that only team captains may respectfully approach an umpire during a break in play to seek clarification on a rule or decision. Parents and spectators should not approach umpires before, during or after games regarding umpiring decisions.
Many of our umpires are young people who are developing their skills and confidence. Today's young umpire may become tomorrow's senior representative umpire. Encouragement, patience and respect from the sideline help them develop and stay involved in our game.
Our players are always watching and learning from the adults around them. When they see parents displaying respect, resilience and good sportsmanship, they learn valuable life lessons that extend well beyond the netball court.
At Raiders, we pride ourselves on being a family-friendly club where players, coaches, umpires, volunteers and spectators feel supported and valued. We thank you for helping us maintain this positive culture.
Thank you for your ongoing support of our players, coaches and umpires throughout the season.
