Shane Plohl drifting through hungry corner without fear in his NA MX-5 and leaving some big black marks. Can't think of who, but reminds me of someone...

I wanted to create a place where I can consolidate everything motor sport and car related in my life. Kinda like an open diary of events, modifications and lessons learned. You'll find sneak peak photos and video footage of racing, modifying and competition here.
Hi team!
A little-known fact about the origin of my driving path and the original genesis of Monkeen Motorsport is that I learned to drive (properly) from my training as a paramedic (I bet that racing number #911 is starting to make sense now).
Recently I was selected to represent a team of paramedics in a simulated competition on the international stage. I was flown to Auckland New Zealand and my team and I were tasked to manage an assassination attempt including a multiple gunshot wound trauma patient, a complex cardiac patient, and a distracting drug affected patient.
Turns out we're not bad at this whole "saving lives" game and were awarded 1st place in the 2016 Ferno Australia Paramedic Sim Challenge making us the best paramedic team in Australasia.
If you would like to know more about this, would like to follow this side of my competition journey, or if you'd simply like to show me some support I urge you to jump across and like this page.
Thanks team.

!!!WE WON THE CHAMPIONSHIP!!!
Fighting through some mechanical difficulties throughout the year we've managed to defend the title of fastest Street class - AWD! Winning with maximum points available as well as earning fastest lap in class, we could not have asked for a much better year.
On top of that, the team was able to lock out all opposition and take out the top 5 spots proving if you want to have a competitive road going street class car, there is only one team to consider.
I want to again thank all my supporters. They've made a difficult year manageable. Without them I would not be anywhere near the top and I'm proud to bring home the championship for them.

!!!Fastest Street Class AWD Lap Lakeside!!!!
Not only did we win fastest Street Class AWD at Lakeside, we beat all the other Street Classes by a HUGE margin!
Here's the final results for the fastest lap 2016 at Lakeside. I'm so proud of my team to help me get over the line and get the holy grail lap of under 60secs that seemed like an impossible goal 2 years ago, but thanks to businesses listed below we were able to pull it off.
Lakeside is wrapped up, but QR is still undecided. I'm currently in first but if Troy drives like he has been all year there is a very real and distinct chance he'll beat me over the line to take the championship. Looks like it's going to be a hell of a final round in December!

This is a little snippet of my first ever race with a VR headset. I qualified P3 and made it to T1 quickly to take 2nd, and this video is of my move from P2 to the lead on lap 2 of a 20 lap race. The driver made an error through the chicane and I was able to capitalize on it without the risk of a racing incident.
The rest of the race was still quite tense for me, and my hands were literally shaking up until lap 10 at which point I was able to settle into a groove as 2nd and 3rd started to battle allowing me to create space.
A big thanks to Graham for not only introducing me to iRacing and the capabilities and immersion of VR racing, but also his support in this first race. He acted as my spotter / crew chief watching the race unfold in real time and keeping me updated on my performance as well as what was happening in the rest of the field. As a good spotter should, he let me concentrate for the majority of the lap and spoke to me on the straights while I was having a breather. With his support, we won with a 7sec lead with absolutely 0 race incidents, a great result.

So while the year is winding down and we're preparing for our final round at QR in the heat of December I've been keeping my skills sharp by upgrading the racing rig. Making the switch from Xbox One and Forza to the PC simulation world was no easy task. After driving 2 laps in a friends VR headset, there was no going back. I built a dedicated gaming PC capable of running the HTC Vive and paired that with my already capable racing rig. All of that to compete in iRacing, the premier hyper realistic racing simulator.
Attached to my rSeat RS Evo rig I have a Thrustmaster TX wheel base with the Ferrari GT wheel, Thrustmaster T3PA pedals with the Ricomotech load cell improving brake realism, and the TH8A shifter. While sitting in this thing with surround sound headphones and a virtual reality headset, the immersion is truly REAL.
I have a short video coming up soon showing my first race using the VR headset and had the assistance of a very experienced racing friend in my ear acting as my spotter, so stay tuned =)

The boys at John French Motors have been busy. Andrew from The86shop quickly diagnosed the cause of our last engine failure and created a solution. More details on all of that soon. With the engine back together the car will be running by the end of the day, then off to Tony at Coyote Tuning before Lakeside Rd 4 this weekend.
With only 2 rounds left and only 1 win required to seal the championship win its getting very exciting for everyone here =)
We'll keep you updated with everything going on 👍

I really like this photo from Lakeside. Will we be there this weekend???

Goodies from Car Mods Australia arrived yesterday. The heads are off getting skimmed and checked, and there's a small possibility they may even be back later this afternoon. Then reassembly and we're back in action.
We've diagnosed exactly what happened to cause the engine failure and will have photos of the damage and solution soon.

There are definitely worse cars to cruise around in while the engine gets replaced in Cindy. Big shout out to Dylan and Skid Control for lending me their awesome GT86. Anyone that knows me, knows that I LOVE these cars. Thank you so much mate
