Our annual Skiffies & Yachties fundraising lunch was held last Friday at BSS. Seventy or so guests were entertained by guest speaker Rob Brown and tales from his days with Americas Cup and 18 Footer campaigns.

Special thanks to Ken Reed for organising the event, Joanne O'Shea and her catering team for a fantastic lunch, Malcolm Blackley & his team behind the bar and MC Rapper Malcolm Thorburn for keeping the day on track.

On the day, nearly $2,500 dollars was donated directly into our Junior Development Fund, which this year is raising money for the purchase of additional OziOpti training boats for our junior development program.
Donations to the fund can be made through the Australian Sporting Foundation and are tax deductible. After a successful Skiffies Lunch, we're already halfway to our goal of $5,000.

Last Saturday was the Betty Bliss Memorial race. A yardstick event, this race is always hotly contested across our fleet. While Archer Newton and Blake White were keen to defend their title in the Flying 11, the Sabot River titles being run as part of the race put an end to that plan. Unusually, there were no Gecks sailing, meaning the hotly contested rivalry between Steve in his ILCA and Aidan in his 16ft Skiff was also off the table.
This left the field wide open, but the long downwind against a strong run out tide favoured the only skiff and their big kite. Congratulations to TED Racing (Lauren Thorburn, Mick White and Blake White) for taking out the prized trophy, giving Blake back-to-back wins.
We’re looking forward to the final heat of the club championship and the Tuguluwa Cup this Saturday.

We were thrilled to host the Queensland 125 Sailing memorial race on Saturday. It was wonderful to see so many 125s back on the river, with competitive racing and lots of smiles shared with past and present members on the deck afterwards.

Perfect conditions for our skiffs to race down past the Gateway in last Saturday’s club championship. It was great to see such close racing 🤩
