Great to see so many kids on the water, and friends and families enjoying breakfast, yesterday morning for our learn to sail program.

Well done to the 11 ILCAs and 2 Quests who braved the rain for some competitive racing in the afternoon.

This weekend we held our annual Brisbane River Regatta, featuring the Lord Mayor's Cup yardstick race on Saturday. As is often the case with our yardstick races, it was a battle of the Geck's, with Aidan in his 16ft skiff SMH narrowly beating his old man Steve in his ILCA6 Flashback. It was great to see a mix of classes at the top of the leaderboard. Congratulations to Lauren Thorburn & crew in the 16ft skiff TED Racing in third, Archer Newton in his sabot Material Girl in fourth (and close to a podium finish), and Rod Smith in his ILCA 7 ILCASM in fifth. Thank you to Councillor Lucy Collier for coming down and starting the race for us!

Sunday saw the completion of the regatta with three races. Congratulations to our overall winners:
Archer Newton - Sabot and Division 1
Shelby Newton - ILCA4
Steven Geck - ILCA 6 and Division 2
Rod Smith - ILCA 7
Lauren Thorburn & crew - Division 3

A massive thank you to our committee members, the race committee and our on- and off-water volunteers. It was a big weekend that could not have happened without your efforts.

Our first Supper Club last night was a huge success! We had over 60 guests attending including club members, Bulimba locals and our local members from all three levels of government. The goal of Supper Club is simple, good food and even better company. Organisers Joanne O'Shea and Lia Arcioni certainly delivered, with plenty of full bellies and smiling faces at the end of the night. Thanks Jo and Lia for brining your vision to life, we're so grateful to have you as part of our community.

Profits from Supper Club go back into making BSS a great place for our members and the local community. Profits from last night will go towards the purchase of a coffee machine for our canteen, a welcome addition for our Saturday morning learn to sail families (and for sailors that may have partied a little too hard on a Friday night, and need a pick me up to get motivated for racing on a Saturday afternoon).

After a very successful campaign at the Zhik Queensland Youth Sail Event, Archer Newton backed up to represent BSS at the Zhik NSW Youth Championships, held at Toronto in Lake Macquarie. Congratulations to Archer for his third place in the regatta, an impressive result considering he was sailing a different boat, and the lighter conditions.

Congratulations also to club member Seb Behrens, who had a convincing win in the ILCA4 fleet of 37 boats; and to his sister Harriet in 9th place.

We had picture perfect, but sometimes tricky conditions last Saturday for our club championship heats. There was some very tight racing across all fleets, which is always great to see. Congratulations to our heat winners:
- Damen in the 16ft skiffs (one heat only), clutching victory from rivals SMH (Aidan Geck) who led for most of the race. Congratulations to guest skipper Morgan Oakley!
- In the ILCA 7 fleet, Last Resort (Michael Wilson) took out the win in Race 1, with ILCASM (Rod Smith) victorious in Race 2.
- In the ILCA6 fleet, Flashback (Steve Geck) took out both heats.
- In the ILCA4's, Kerri Craig (Peter Craig) was the only competitor, taking home some valuable club championship points.
- In the sabots, the racing was incredibly close, with Back in Black (Harrison Duignan) narrowly beating The Wobbly Boot (Addison White) by just 6 seconds in the first race, and 3 seconds in the second race 🤯 Well done to you both, we love having you on the river and can't wait to see how the rest of the season plays out!

⛵️ OUR FIRST BSS COMMUNITY SUPPER CLUB IS COMING! 💛

We’re getting excited now — 32 people have already booked for our very first Community Supper Club on Wednesday 7 October, and we’d love to see plenty more of our BSS members around the tables!

The idea is simple: good food, good company and one table — bringing our BSS family and local community together for a relaxed mid-week meal by the river.

🍽️ On the menu:
Chicken Satay & Vegetable Spring Roll
Sticky Honey Soy Baked Chicken with Vegetarian Fried Rice and Asian Greens
Apple & Berry Crumble with Custard

Members: Adults $25 | Children/Students $15
Non-members: Adults $30 | Children/Students $20

🍷 The bar will be open from 5.30–8.30pm, with dinner from 6.30pm.

We’d especially love our BSS members to get behind our first night — bring your partner, the kids, a neighbour or some friends. You definitely don’t need to come with a group either. Pull up a chair and meet someone new — that’s exactly what Supper Club is all about.

We have room for 80 around our tables, so help us fill the clubhouse for our very first one! 💛⛵️
