Congratulations to our 16s 1s team who finished as runners up at today's Moorebank Carnival. A fabulous effort for a team who played games all day, without a single sub for the final losing 3-0 to NSB in the final having beat them earlier in the day. The team are ready for the state championships to be held at home in Newcastle next weekend!

Congratulations to our NDWHA opens teams on their tournaments last weekend.
Both teams finished 4th in their pools - missing out on semi final positions.
The Div 1 team dropped to zero subs after a couple of broken fingers and a rolled ankle. A champion effort to everyone who played.
The Div 3 team featuring a mix of players, young and really young- was a striker heavy team and played well, the highlight being a 7-0 victory.
Thank you to all athletes, managers and coaches. We hope those broken fingers heal quickly.
We also congratulate Maggie and Amber on their selection for in the Hockey Australia Country Championships and Maliah, Tori, Hannah, Emma and Tilly on their selection in the HNSW U21 squad.

Newcastle 6
These ladies may not have played the games of their lives every time they stepped onto the field, but they absolutely showed everyone how to have the time of their lives, tournament style. From travelling up early and enjoying a relaxed team meet-and-greet on the eve of the tournament, to cheering on fellow Newcastle teams, socialising with everyone they met, sampling the various pubs around town and giving the youngsters a lesson or two in the fine art of grass hockey, Newcastle 6 embraced every aspect of the weekend.
Oh, and they managed to fit a bit of hockey in along the way too.
What stood out most was their unity. Whether on the field or off it, this group is a true team in every sense of the word. They are a wonderful reminder of why so many of us continue to play this great game well into our 60s and beyond β for the friendships, the camaraderie, the laughs and the shared experiences.
Speaking of age, the Gwen Shiels Players' Player Award was very deservedly awarded to Pam Ness. If anyone thinks age slows you down, they clearly haven't seen Pam play. She runs like someone half her age, constantly making leads, creating opportunities for teammates and driving the ball into the circle. She just keeps going, and going, and going. Quite frankly, she puts plenty of younger masters to shame.
Newcastle 6 continue to show us all how it's done, leading by example from day one and proving that hockey has no expiry date.
Congratulations ladies. By the looks of things, there are plenty more tournaments left in those legs yet.

Newcastle 5
Newcastle 5 handled the tournament and the entire weekend like seasoned professionals. Certainly not their first rodeo, this group of ladies took everything in their stride with grace, humour and plenty of resilience.
With the squad already depleted by a dislocated shoulder just days before the tournament, and then an appendicitis emergency on the eve of competition, some teams may have been rattled. Not Newcastle 5. Instead, they got on with the job.
When they weren't on the field, the team could be found refuelling with slices and countless bacon and egg rolls. Some even managed to squeeze in a few well-earned naps, while others bravely took on what may have been the biggest challenge of the weekend β the hotel pool.
No matter what the schedule threw at them, these ladies were always ready to take the field and somehow always managed to make it to the Nutbush warm-up on time, with no obvious signs of a barbecue lunch down the front of the uniform.
Grass, turf, whatever the surface, Newcastle 5 handled it. Sure, some games were better than others, but that's just the way the cookie β or in this case, the slice β crumbles.
A huge congratulations goes to Liz Lambert, who was a thoroughly deserving recipient of the Mavis Randle Players' Player Award. Liz seemed to be everywhere all weekend. In fact, we're fairly certain she played just about every position on the field at some stage, doing whatever was required for the team and doing it exceptionally well.
Go Liz, and well done to all the Newcastle 55s ladies on a fantastic tournament! ππ₯π°π Sometimes the best teams aren't measured by the scoreboard alone, but by the stories, friendships and laughs they create along the way. Newcastle 5 certainly ticked all those boxes.

Newcastle 4
Newcastle 4 spent the weekend taking on teams from both the Over 45s and Over 50s divisions, so an extra well done is in order for having to chase around players up to a decade younger!
Fortunately, this was a team blessed with a frighteningly high combined hockey IQ. In fact, such was the reputation of this group that one player chose to fly in from Sydney just to be part of the team and increase her hockey IQ through pure osmosis.
And compete they did β very well, in fact.
After an enormous weekend that included a whopping six matches, Newcastle 4 finished as joint premiers of the Over 50s division. A remarkable achievement and a testament to the skill, determination and resilience of the entire team.
The Val Harrigan Players' Player Award was deservedly awarded to the pocket rocket of the team, Tina Walker. Tina's consistently strong performances and smart distribution made her an invaluable part of the team's success throughout the tournament.
Congratulations ladies on a fantastic weekend. Another medal to add to the pool room. Six games, joint premiers, and plenty of hockey wisdom on display. Outstanding effort, Newcastle 4! ππ

Newcastle 2
Newcastle's second young gun team took on Division 3 this weekend. While the scoreboard may not have always fallen their way, one thing that never wavered was their team spirit.
The girls had the pleasure of rediscovering (or in some cases learning for the first time) the art of playing on grass. The novelty of that experience wore off somewhere around half-time of the first game, but the smiles and determination remained.
Results aside, the team competed with style, grew together throughout the tournament, and made sure they sampled some of Grafton's finest food and drink establishments along the way. Most importantly, they had a fantastic time doing it.
Brooke was a deserving recipient of the Jill Stuart Players' Player Medal, recognised for her consistent performances, humble attitude, and willingness to give her all for the team every time she stepped onto the field.
A huge congratulations to all the girls, and a special thank you to everyone who chipped in with coaching and supporting the team throughout the weekend. You should all be very proud of your efforts. ππ Great work, Newcastle 2!
