competition in 1968 and joined the Victorian Amateur Football Association in 1971. The inaugural year in the VAFA competition was an undoubted success for the Club with a Premiership for the Seniors and the Reserves finishing third. The Club swept the ‘F’ grade pool – the Premiership and Peter Gartner with 98 goals won the leading Goal Kicker and the Best and Fairest for the Grade. The early foundations on and off of the field saw the Club progress from F grade to A grade in successive years with Premierships in 1974 and 1976. Ray Walsh as coach. A talented group of players. Bill Gartner and a committed group of supporters and parent contributed to a remarkable achievement unparalleled in the VAFA competition. The 1980’s. The first Under 19 premiership for the Club in 1984 contributed to a pool of talent and a B grade premiership for the Seniors in 1985 under the guidance of Neil LeLievre as Senior Coach. The Club re-entered A grade with a significant changing of the playing guard. The 1990’s – a 1990 Premiership with a talented Under 19 group translated into a powerful finish in the 90’s. Successive Premierships with Tony Paatsch in 1997 in ‘C’ grade and 1998 in ‘B’ grade for the Seniors. A premiership for the Reserves in 1996. A Under 19 Premiership in 1999. The 2000’s – a big decade. The A Grade premiership in 2001 with Simon Dalrymple as Senior Coach. The Under 19 Premiership in 2005. The B Grade Premiership in 2008. Club XV111 Premierships in 2002 and 2008. Bald Eagles Premierships in 2001 and 2002. Across the history of the Club there has been so many successes - much more than games won and premierships. Enduring and lifelong friendships on and off of the field has to be a hallmark of any successful Club. One person has seen it all. In the 1971 annual report President Brian Wright commented, “Tim Naughton saw to the efficient administration of both teams. The demands on his time were heavy yet he still placed himself at the Clubs disposal each Saturday as timekeeper as well as seeing to the preparation of the ground and gymnasium when we were playing at the College”

As well as our player awards at our Presentation Night last week we were also proud to announce the winners of our two club awards – the Tim Naughton Award and the Presidents Trophy.

The Tim Naughton Award is awarded to a player whose actions went above and beyond that of a footballer. This years recipient was none other than Lachy Rush.

Rushy has been a valued member of the Club since joining as a Year 12 student in 2016. In 2026, he played a pivotal role in strengthening the Club’s social culture, taking charge of Thursday night dinners and fines sessions and helping make them a highlight of the week (every Thursday was a packed night at the club!).

His impact was equally significant on the field. Rushy led the Senior Men’s goalkicking in 2026 and finished the season in outstanding form, averaging 26.0 disposals, 8.0 marks and 2.3 goals across his final three matches. His contributions both on and off the field have been instrumental to the success and spirit of the Eagles, and makes him a worthy Tim Naughton Award recipient.

The Presidents Trophy is awarded to an individual who provided a significant contribution to the club off-field. This was shared by three recipients – Chris Daley, David Keyhoe and Mark Rice.

Dales came on board as our Player Welfare Manager, providing valuable support to both our playing and coaching groups. David played a significant role in assisting the Committee with proposals for the redevelopment of the Old Boys Room and the preparation of NELP grant applications. As our Bald Eagles representative, Ricey has continued to provide strong support to both the Club and the Baldies. He was also instrumental in the planning, coordination and successful delivery of the VAFA Finals hosted at the College.

Congratulations to all award winners!
