🔊 Dillan’s Aussie Sidecar Story 🔊

When an opportunity presented itself for Dillan McDermott and his dad to do some laps on a sidecar in 2011, they relished the chance and have not looked back.

Finding form fast in the West Australian Road Race Sidecar Championship after a lifetime on two wheels, the family team has fostered a strong work ethic and dedication to the sport.

In this episode we talk about the past career highlights, but also about the future with Gen 3 Motorsport set to receive a new sidecar from the UK later this year that they hope will mix things up in the Australian. sidecar racing scene.

Not a whole lot of news as yet on the delivery time of our new outfit still waiting on the crate to be delivered along with some other shipping information to be sorted out hopefully this week. But on a positive note we are still working hard to ensure we are 100% ready for when the outfit does get here. Dillan’s 2027 training presentation kicked off today along with the successful renewal of his National race licence. We have also managed to keep our original sidecar number #25.

We do have some exciting things to reveal regarding a recent podcast that Dillan has done along with Team offical shirt designs also paired up with our general purpose T shirts.

Well a 1,495km round trip to get the new race trailer project was a success. Time to start the race trailer build. Going to be fully self sufficient and enclosed this project is going to be a huge effort to undertake at home in a carport but to have our own designed and build sidecar trailer is something that the whole team is really looking forward to.

Well as you all have seen in the past week, there has been some activity on the Gen3motorsport page.

We would now like to officially confirm our plans for 2027 and beyond.

The Gen3motorsport team have purchased a 2025 Dean Ryde F1 sidecar chassis that is currently in the British sidecar championship. The outfit is powered by a 2022 Yamaha R6. Outfit Specs are as listed below

2025 Ryde Chassis
2022/2025 Yamaha R6 engines ( BSB Specs )
Carbon engine guard
Carbon under tray floor
Carbon exhaust cover
Motec M800 ecu
Motec m125 dash
Adjustable brake bias dial
Brake pressure sensors
Suspension potentiometers
Shock works factory suspension
Christie engineering harness
Christie engineering cross over exhaust
Pro shift electric button up and down shift
8 wheels
New style narrow Carbon faring

This combination means we will have a current world championship spec outfit ( chassis and running gear ) and what we believe is the only F1 Ryde chassis in the country and the only 600cc powered F1 in Australia.

With Europe and the UK having switched to 600cc powered long outfits, we thought it was time to see how it goes in WA / Australia against the 1000cc outfits.

To say this new chapter will be a huge challenge and a huge opportunity, not just for the Gen3motorsport team but for the Australian Sidecar Championship as a whole is an understatement.

To have a current world spec outfit in the country is something we are incredibly proud of. We will get it prepared and presented to the same high standard as all of our outfits.

A massive thank you to Dean Ryde for all his help and support in making this happen. He’s done a lot of the groundwork setting the outfit up and giving it a freshen up before it gets boxed up. He’s also boxing it up and has shown huge interest in our team.

Check out Dean’s page here: https://www.facebook.com/share/187GiP7abA/?mibextid=wwXIfr — be sure to give it a follow if you haven’t already.

To everyone within the Gen3motorsport team supporting this comeback, and to all of you who have stuck with us and kept following our page — thank you so much.

We also have a couple of new sponsors on board for 2027! To have new support heading into what will be a massive development and learning year is honestly amazing.

We’ll be announcing our new partnerships in the coming days, so stay tuned 👀

Let’s go 2027! 🏆
