๐ŸŽ‰ Celebrating 10 Years of Industry Service! ๐ŸŽ‰

A huge congratulations to our South West Sports Centre Aquatics Coordinator, William (Billy) Duncan, who was recognised at the LIWA Aquatics Awards Ceremony in Perth last week with a 10 Year Industry Service Award! ๐Ÿ†

Billyโ€™s journey with the South West Sports Centre is a pretty special one. He first joined us as a sprightly teenager working as a swim teacher, before heading off for a few years and eventually finding his way back to the Centre, this time to head the ship in Aquatics! ๐ŸŠโ€โ™‚๏ธ

Today, Billy leads our Aquatics team with passion, dedication and plenty of personality. He is an exceptional member of our team and, perhaps most importantly, someone you can always count on to put a smile on everyoneโ€™s face. ๐Ÿ˜Š

As Acting Team Leader, Sarah Van Velzen, says:

โ€œBilly is the kind of teammate every team wishes they had. He is always willing to lend a hand, share ideas, support his colleagues and stand firmly behind his team, no matter the challenge. His positivity, reliability and genuine commitment to those around him make him an invaluable part of our team.โ€

We are incredibly proud to have Billy as part of the SWSC team and are so pleased to see his 10 years of industry service recognised. Congratulations Billy! ๐Ÿ‘

The SWSC team also had a fantastic time attending the LIWA Awards in Perth, where we were honoured to have a number of nominations across the awards. While we unfortunately didnโ€™t bring home any of the final awards this year, we were incredibly proud to be recognised and nominated alongside so many outstanding people and organisations from across the industry. ๐Ÿ’™

It was also a wonderful opportunity to catch up and network with other Sport & Recreation teams from across Western Australia, share ideas and celebrate the incredible work happening across our industry.

If you see Billy around the Centre, be sure to congratulate him! ๐ŸŽ‰

Riding to SWSC? ๐Ÿšฒ
Here are a few quick tips! โœ”๏ธ

Being active doesnโ€™t have to stop when you leave the Centre! We know many of our visitors and members choose to ride to SWSC, which is fantastic to see.

We want to help keep your bike, e-scooter and belongings as safe as possible while youโ€™re enjoying the Centre.

A few simple things that make a difference:
๐Ÿ”’For added security, we recommend using a quality D-lock or heavy-duty chain to secure your bike or scooter.
๐Ÿ”’ Lock the frame to the rack, not just a wheel
๐Ÿ”’ Two locks are better than one
๐Ÿ”’ Take your lights, bags, accessories and all other valuables in with you

And if you havenโ€™t already, register your bike with Bikelinc. Itโ€™s free, takes a couple of minutes, and gives your bike a much better chance of finding its way home if it ever goes missing.

See you at SWSC ๐Ÿ’ช

A new way to communicate at the South West Sports Centre! ๐Ÿ’ฌ

We were proud to have our new Communication Board installed at the South West Sports Centre this week!

The new board is another step towards making our Centre more inclusive and accessible for everyone in our community.
Communication Boards use symbols, pictures and words to support people who may communicate in different ways, including people who are non-speaking or have difficulty communicating verbally.

And weโ€™ve already seen it making a difference! ๐Ÿ™Œ
Within the first 30 minutes of installation, the board was being used by our patrons. ๐Ÿ’™

Itโ€™s a small addition that can make a big difference, helping more people feel comfortable, confident and included when visiting the South West Sports Centre.

Weโ€™re committed to creating a welcoming space where everyone can participate, connect and communicate.

A special shout-out to Emily from Empower Every Voice and Laura from OutLoud Developmental Services for assisting with the planning and development of the Communications Board.

Keep an eye out for more Communication Boards popping up in spaces around the City.
