This time one week ago Adam was smashing the course 🏃♂️
Sub 3 hour time 🙌
Age 35
What first inspired you to start running long distances?
It started as more as a challenge for myself and owing it to myself to run long distances. Each day its about being not only able to be as fit as i can be but its about being healthy and more present for people. It’s certainly changed my life with over a decade long.
How do you pace yourself over the course of a marathon?
For me the best way to pace myself to a marathon is to never overthink what pace you should do. As a matter of fact the less you think the better you will be. Focus on running with a group, always keep and eye out on nutrition and constantly keep an eye on how you’re feeling.
What has running taught you about yourself?
Running has made me learn so much about myself. I’ve learned on how my grit and commitment i can give myself if i invest in myself. Being fit and a healthy athlete not only promotes how strong i can be but also its about how mentally strong i can be too.
How do you stay motivated over long training cycles?
I have a coach and she writes my program. For me I owe my full attention to what she does for me and her belief in my potential. I do owe her that.

Meet Ashleigh Gallo
Age: 37
First time Mum, Runner and Star 🤩
Official Half Marathoner 🏃♀️👟
What first inspired you to run a half marathon?
I’ve always dabbled in some running and have done a few shorter fun runs, then last November I did the Women’s Triathlon and enjoyed the challenge. My sister Lee has been trying to get me to do a half for years, she came to support me at the tri and when I was done she said, “you should do a half marathon next” and I thought yeah, I think I will. I need to keep challenging myself and having goals.
How do you balance training with life/ being a new Mum?
Some days/weeks were so hard! Sleep deprivation has been real. I’m still breastfeeding my son overnight and he wakes a lot. So, some mornings I absolutely did not want to go for a run but also knew it was the best thing to do for my mental wellbeing. 40% of my training was done pushing him in the pram, running is good for that, it doesn’t interfere with nap times or anything and you can just go whenever you’re ready. I also have a very supportive husband, and my Mum and sister helped me a lot as well.
What goes through your mind during the hardest kms?
I do get all up in my head when it gets hard and I think I can’t finish, then I have to give myself pep talks. Sometimes I just focus on one km at a time instead of exactly how far I’ve got to go. I’m lucky enough to have done all my long runs and the half marathon with my sister so she kept me going when it got hard too.
What advice would you give to someone running their first half marathon?
Don’t get caught up looking at what pace other people are running at if you follow people on Strava or social media leading up to it.
Personally, I didn’t have a goal time I was hoping to get, my goal was to just finish it. I think if you put too many expectations on yourself it takes away the enjoyment and makes it stressful. You can always work on your time for the next one. The first will always be a PB 😆
Make sure your shorts don’t chaff 😵💫
Stay hydrated 💦

Meet Debra Carver
71 years old
1/2 marathoner
member
Long time volunteer
What inspired you to sign up for your first half marathon?
I am not sure it was something I wanted to do after loosing 20k’s and controlling my type 2 diabeties. It was something I wanted to achieve even though I have never been a runner.
How did you stay motivated on days you didn’t feel like running?
I had a hip injury and a few other hiccups during my training, I was very fortunate to have Sue Penfold as my training partner
Can you describe your experience during the race?
During the race I wasn’t sure I would get through, my family were there supporting me, it was a warm day, Sue kept me going we did it in stages and high fived each time we had reached it and each time we had less go.
What did it feel like crossing the finish line?
I had my family run the last little bit of race they were so encouraging as were friends out on course. I was so happy running through the finish line hopefully I showed enjoyment. I have never really given myself credit I am proud of my myself I did it. 👏
