Sports tourism & Bunbury
The pic is of the venue requirements to host a National indoor court event.
Can you imagine the sports tourism spend / opportunities / benefits BUNBURY & the region would experience, if the South West Sports Centre could host a national indoor court event.

As per the DSR BUNBURY Wellington Sports Strategic Plan, the South West Sports Centre is recognised as the regional indoor court facility & has the highest potential to contribute to economic growth of all sports in the region.

Basketball, Netball & other indoor court championship events, would all require similar venue requirements to host their national events.

Bunbury, let’s aspire to have a venue that can host national indoor court events, plus meet the current & latent participation demands of our indoor court sporting community.

A facility of this standard will aid in keeping BUNBURY relevant by giving people a reason to come to BUNBURY to partake in major sporting events &/or compete in regional junior / senior leagues.

Basketball WA (BWA) has stated, as per their facilities strategic plan, they would like a regional facility in the south west, as there are over 7,000 registered basketball players & no facility big enough to host major events in the south west.

Annually many juniors from BUNBURY attend the National Junior Championship events all over Australia, as they are selected in State WA Country teams.

The upgrade of the South West Sports Centre (SWSC) is the Priority 1 project identified in the City of Bunbury’s) Sport and Recreation Strategy 2019. The first stage of the planning is underway with the updating of the conceptual layout for the SWSC to guide future growth and development and we want you to help us develop it.

As part of the process, the City's appointed consultants are seeking feedback from the various users of the SWSC and the community. This online survey will be used by the consultants to inform the development of concept plans for the site.

The questions in this survey build on the feedback already provided by the community in the development of the original concept plan in 2013 and the subsequent feedback provided for the development of the Sports and Recreation Strategy in 2019.

In this survey, we will ask a series of questions so that we can capture your thoughts, ideas, preferences and comments because it is important to us that the future of the SWSC meets and satisfies community needs and aspirations.

We appreciate your time in completing the survey, which should only take a couple of minutes to complete.

Our latest commitment of $8 million for new indoor courts comes after the $3.9 million we provided for upgrades to Hay Park and funding of $5 million for new facilities at Hands Oval, as well as a wide range of assistance provided to other sports.
Sport is so important to our way of life so I know just what this funding means to our community.

Kudos to Premier Mark McGowan, Don Punch MLA & WA Labor for pledging $8 million if re-elected to build more multi-purpose indoor courts at the South West Sports Centre.
With more indoor courts the future and growth of basketball in the region will benefit with increased opportunities becoming available to the community.

The South West Sports Centre is a hub of activity and fitness in Bunbury, and I am very pleased to announce an election commitment to provide $8 million to increase the capacity of the indoor, multi-use courts at the South West Sports Centre!

I would like to thank members of the Indoor Courts Alliance and all those members of the community who expressed their support for more courts and the importance of catering for national level competition.

$8 million pledge for more indoor courts if re-elected!

WA's South West is a beautiful part of the world - and the region, along with its biggest city Bunbury, is thriving.

But there are also a number of growing needs for the area - so we have a plan to keep Bunbury, Warren-Blackwood and Vasse strong.

It's a comprehensive plan for a re-elected McGowan Labor Government that will include improvements to education, training and healthcare, as well as upgrading roads and infrastructure and supporting key economic initiatives.

It'll support local TAFE colleges in the South West and boost STEM education at schools.

It'll continue work on the $200 million Bunbury Hospital redevelopment and help West Aussies in the South West when they need to travel for medical care.

It will provide $8 million for new indoor basketball courts at the South West Sports Centre in Bunbury.

It’ll deliver $9.5 million to help the Australian Underwater Discovery Centre in Busselton build a world-class tourism attraction.

And it will deliver millions of dollars of improvements to roads across the South West through our continuing Regional Road Safety Program.

These are just a few things in our Plan for Bunbury, Warren-Blackwood and Vasse.

It's a comprehensive package, and it will keep our South West strong for years to come.
