Did you know today being 1st September is Wattle Day? Yep. It is.
Wattle Day in Australia is celebrated on September 1, which is the first day of spring in the Southern Hemisphere.
This is a time when several wattle (acacia) species are in bloom and many people wear a sprig of wattle to celebrate the beginning of spring and as a sign of patriotism.
The origins of Wattle Day date back to 1838. That year, the first Hobart Town Anniversary Regatta was held to celebrate the anniversary of the discovery of Tasmania. It's organizers decided that the annual regatta should be celebrated by wearing a sprig of silver wattle blossom.
However, their proposal was met with some ridicule as this wattle species blossomed in August and September and would be difficult to obtain in November or December, when the regatta took place. As a result, it was decided to use the black wattle instead. This custom persisted until at least 1883.

Another icon in our musical/acting/entertainment industry has left us this week for that other place - RIP Vale Tim Curry. Such sad news to read about today 😢
For whichever musical, movie or series you remember him in - he was always memorable. He might not have been everyone's "cup of tea" but he certainly was ours 😉 Fly high in those fishnets Tim!

We were all very saddened to hear about the passing of Dolly Parton 😢 What a loss to the world of country music and the music industry. Dolly was known for her amazing voice, lyrics as an accomplished songwriter, being a talented musician and entrepreneur. RIP Vale Dolly Parton 😢

Although we know these things, it's always helpful to have others reiterate how good dancing is for everyone. Thank You to Queensland Health for sharing this information via email to us.
We are VERY supportive of the many benefits of dancing and are happy to share these points with you all:
Five ways music is good for your mind
1. Music can improve your mental wellbeing
Listening to music can reduce cortisol (stress hormone) levels and boost your brain’s production of dopamine and serotonin ('feel-good' hormones). It can lift your mood and reduce some symptoms of depression.
2. Music activates almost all of your brain
Harvard Medical School says that music lights up nearly all areas of the brain, including the areas which activate emotional responses to music through memory, and the pleasure centres of the brain.
3. Music stimulates your memory
Because it activates so many areas of your brain, music doesn't only help you retrieve stored memories, it also helps create new ones.
4. Music is social
Listening to or making music with others is a social activity. Whether you're attending a live concert, a recital, playing in a band, singing in church, or just wailing away to your favourite song in your car, you are sharing music with others. Even when you listen to music on your own, in a way you are sharing it with the people who made it. The act of sharing music generates feelings of social connection that can create a sense of belonging and enhance feelings of wellbeing.
5. Music can help you exercise more often and better
Listening to energetic music can literally energise you—motivating you to exercise, and helping increase your endurance and the intensity of your workouts.
We know exercise alone is good for your mental wellbeing, so exercise plus music harmonise together perfectly!
