REFLECTION
The inability to control ones mind

THERE IS NOTHING IN THIS WORLD THAT CAN HURT YOU MORE THAN YOUR OWN THOUGHTS.

Your mind can be your greatest strength or your greatest weakness.

What you think shapes how you see.
What you believe shapes how you act.
What you repeatedly do shapes who you become.

Where your thoughts, beliefs, and self-talk serve as the blueprint for your daily experiences.

The purposeful process of turning our attention inward to examine our experiences, thoughts, and actions so we can gain deeper self-awareness and wisdom.

The Law of Mindset: "Whatever you think you create." Your dominant thoughts act as a lens. If you focus on scarcity, you see obstacles. If you focus on opportunity, you see possibilities.

The Law of Attraction: "Whatever you feel you attract." Emotional energy dictates how we react to the world. Emitting confidence and gratitude tends to draw positive people and circumstances toward us.

Behavioral loops: Changing your internal dialogue from "I can't handle this" to "I can figure this out" alters your physiology. It lowers stress hormones, clears your thinking, and leads to proactive actions.

The ripple effect: When your actions change, the people and circumstances around you naturally shift. Opportunities appear not because the world suddenly changed, but because you finally tuned your mind to notice them.

Guard your mind body and spirit

A legacy spanking over 56 years
We all leave a past and legacy

Kancho Akiyoshi Matsui's visits to Shihan Cameron Quinn's dojo in Brisbane during the 1980s remain a legendary milestone in Australian Kyokushin Karate history.

Kancho Akiyoshi Matsui (successor to Sosai Masutatsu Oyama) traveled to Australia during his competitive and developmental peak in the 1980s, putting local karateka through grueling physical and mental conditioning.

Had the honour with many other karateka to share great memory's and hard Budo training with Kancho Matsui.… Many of Sensei franks students attended Kancho Matsui visit and training

From Cameron Quinn Budo Karate acknowledgment of the late Sensei Frank Everrett.

Kyokushin knockdown tournaments began in Australia in 1977, Frank has been the driving force behind many of our greatest champions, positively impacting thousands of karate-ka along the way. Beyond his masterful technique, he taught us by example how to love life, cherish people, and laugh often—lessons I carry with me to this day. In a martial arts landscape where so many dojos are aggressive, pretentious, and completely miss the point, Frank stands out. His subtle, lasting influence transformed everyone fortunate enough to cross his path.

At 74 years of age, I have continued to train and teach for 56 unbroken years in the very same dojo where my journey began in 1970.

I first stepped onto the floor at the Old Burleigh Heads RSL Hall, 6th Avenue, Burleigh Heads, Gold Coast, Queensland, under the guidance of the late Sensei Frank Everrett, training in Kyokushinkaikan Karate

Basic are the foundation
of any strong martial arts style

The late Sosai Masutatsu Oyama, the founder of Kyokushin Karate, famously believed that mastery of the basics (Kihon) and forms (Kata) is the true essence of martial arts, regardless of a practitioner's rank or experience level. He often emphasized that a black belt is not the end of training, but rather a license to begin understanding the fundamentals on a much deeper level.

In Kyokushin, this philosophy is captured by the concept of Shoshin (beginner's mind). Oyama taught that returning to the basics keeps a martial artist grounded, refines technical precision, and builds the immense physical conditioning required for full-contact fighting.

Without a flawless foundation in Kihon, advanced techniques collapse under pressure.

The repetitive practice of blocks, punches, strikes, and kicks. Oyama believed thousands of repetitions build muscle memory, correct alignment, and generate maximum power.

The stylized patterns of combat movements against imaginary opponents. For Oyama, Kata was a moving meditation that taught rhythm, balance, breathing, and the hidden applications (Bunkai) of basic techniques.

The ultimate test of Kihon and Kata. Oyama stressed that one cannot fight effectively without the structure provided by the basics.

Wednesday night training
Honbu Dojo Burleigh Heads RSL Gold Coast

Traditional Kyokushin old ways on conditioning Abs /stomach.

Body conditioning in Kyokushin Karate is intense, holistic training to build a durable, resilient body for full-contact fighting, focusing on strengthening muscles, bones, and impact surfaces (shins, forearms, torso) through heavy bag work, partner drills (receiving strikes), and bodyweight exercises (squats, lunges) to enhance pain tolerance, mental toughness, and overall endurance. It's about making the body

Deep core strengthening the foundation for full contact fighting. Before taking hits, you need thick, active underlying muscle. These exercises build structural density:

Working with partners, stomach strike sit-ups are an intense core-conditioning drill designed to train your abdominal muscles to absorb full-contact body blows.

Another oldie” Walking across the abdomen of a karateka lying flat on the floor, teaching the core muscles to engage continuously under heavy loads.

We would love to see our old and new students come back to the dojo, get back on the floor and continue your Kenshinkan Kyokushin journey with us.

Kenshinkan Kyokushin Bubo Karate (拳心館 • 極真 独立武道空手) is an independent martial arts organisation.

Located at the Burleigh Heads RSL on 6th Avenue since 1970, it is one of the longest-running dojos in Australia. Thousands of students, young and old, have trained here over the decades. Instructor Sensei Jim Casey.

WHY MARTIAL ARTS HELPS CHILDREN
Kenshinkan Kyokushin karate is a complete system for personal growth and practical self-defense, not just a sport or form of exercise.
* Resilience: Children learn to push through fatigue and stay focused during tough, repetitive training.
* Respect: Students understand the value of hierarchy, listen to seniors, and honor the lineage of the art.
* Stress Management: Facing a live opponent teaches kids to handle fear and adrenaline under pressure.
* Real Self-Defense: Striking and blocking against a resisting partner builds practical, functional skills.

Great to be back hitting the heavy bag.

Two months ago, while holding a shield for a student practicing Ushiro Mawashi Geri, the kick missed the shield and shattered my right hand in three places.

Tonight was the first time in over two months I was able to hit the heavy bag again. Now it’s about rebuilding the strength, conditioning, and stamina in my hand.

At 74, Setbacks are temporary. Persistence is permanent. The goal is not to be better than everyone else. The goal is to be better than you were before

Thursday Night Training
Home Gym/Dojo Burleigh Heads

The greatest competition you’ll ever face is the person you were yesterday.

Every day is an opportunity to become stronger, healthier, wiser, and more disciplined. When you stop comparing yourself to others and start measuring your progress against your own, everything changes. Growth becomes personal. Purpose becomes clear.

Great to be back hitting the heavy bag.

LEAD BY EXAMPLE. KEEP THE OLD WAYS ALIVE. KEEP IT REAL.

Authenticity is everything.
Some will leave because they aren’t willing to grow or endure. That’s the price of staying true to the art. Stay true to yourself don’t lower the standard

Kyokushin grading tests physical, mental, and spiritual endurance. In this martial art, belts are earned, not given. True "Budo" (The Martial Way) prioritizes traditional authenticity and inner strength over quick rewards. Instructors test your limits to help you break through mental barriers and never give up.

In Kyokushin Budo Karate, we don’t lower the standard to make people feel equal. We hold everyone to the same standard.

Women push themselves just as hard as men. There are no shortcuts. No special treatment. No excuses.

A Kyokushin black belt is earned through discipline, sacrifice, and an unbreakable spirit.

Every black belt candidate must endure over five hours of basics, Kihon, Kata, and relentless cardio designed to test the mind, body, and spirit. Then comes 40 rounds of Hard -contact kumite, without gloves—over 90 minutes of continuous fighting. It is a brutal test of courage, endurance, and character.

The handstand is another measure of true spirit. Holding a perfect handstand for two minutes or more demands total body control, core strength, shoulder endurance, balance, and mental toughness. Your arms shake. Your body screams to stop. Every second becomes a battle against yourself.

That is the point. The test is not only physical it is spiritual.

When everything hurts and every instinct tells you to quit, you keep going.

That is Budo. Because a black belt is not defined by the colour around the waist. It is defined by the spirit that refuses to surrender.

Keep the old ways alive. Lead by example. Earn every step. Osu.

In this video, 2025” Shihan Pania Casey is assisting Sempai Michelle through a handstand during her Ni Dan grading. Despite complete physical exhaustion, total commitment and determination is required…. Shihan Pania has endured this many times over the past 40+ years training.

Looking back, it’s a reminder that true Kyokushin is built through years of dedication, discipline, and perseverance.
