Taken from Deputy Mayor G Simpson Post, about Burnie City Council’s Draft 2026-27 Annual Plan and Budget was passed at last nights extra long meeting.

Key highlights in our budget were:
A $29.4 million Capital Works Program focused on renewing existing assets and reducing maintenance backlogs including

✔ $2.3M Sports Lighting Improvements, which was a big win! We will now have upgrades to:

• Burnie United Football Club finally!
• McKenna Park Sports Complex
• and West Park Oval.

Annual Plan and Budget Estimates 2026-27 Council has adopted its 2026-27 Annual Plan and Budget Estimates at its June meeting. The budget delivers continued investment in essential services, community facilities and major infrastructure projects while maintaining a strong focus on long-term financial sustainability.

Congratulations to the Devonport Strikers on an incredible Women’s Statewide Cup victory, in a 6–0 win over Launceston United! 👏⚽️

But we also need to take a moment to shout out two very special former Burnie United F.C. players who went head-to-head in that final:

✨ Tully Parke (Devonport Strikers) Tully, played her role to perfection in this big win. And watching you grow into the complete all-round footballer has been an absolute joy.

✨ Maya Mitchell (Launceston United) Maya, your work rate and heart for the game shine every single time. We love seeing you give your all and grow into the brilliant player.

We saw both of you put in a massive shift on that pitch.

And on the day, as much as we love you both… there could only be one winner.

To see you both lead from the front, wearing those armbands with pride, commitment, and real love for the game… that’s the stuff we dream about for our young men when they leave our sheds for bigger opportunities. You made us proud just by stepping out there.
