Do you major in the minors? 🤔

It’s easy to get caught up in the perfect workout split, exact meal timing, supplements and recovery tools.

But none of that matters much if you’re neglecting the basics.

Consistent training, good nutrition, adequate sleep and managing recovery should be the priorities.

That doesn’t mean the smaller details don’t matter. For specific goals or higher-level performance, they can make a real difference.

The key is knowing what actually needs your attention.

Get the foundations right. Build consistency. Then refine the details where they add value.

Should you push through pain or back off?

Pain doesn’t always mean damage, but that doesn’t mean you should ignore it either.

Some injuries require protection and reduced loading. Others can benefit from continued movement and gradually rebuilding strength.

And yes, exercising with some discomfort can be appropriate in certain situations. But pushing through pain isn’t automatically better, or always safe.

What matters is understanding the condition, managing load appropriately and paying attention to how your body responds during and after exercise.

There’s no one-size-fits-all approach to pain management.

The goal isn’t to see how much pain you can tolerate. It’s to improve function, rebuild capacity and return to the activities that matter to you.

Assess. Adapt. Progress.

You don’t need to be extreme with everything to get results.

Yes, extreme results often require extreme approaches. But the reality is, most people aren’t chasing extreme outcomes.

Most just want to feel better, get stronger, improve their body composition and be healthier.

And achieving those things doesn’t require training every day, cutting out everything you enjoy or trying to be perfect.

It comes down to getting the basics right and doing them consistently.

Training, nutrition, sleep, recovery and having a structure that works around your life.

Simple doesn’t always mean easy, but it does make things more sustainable.

Focus on what matters. Do it consistently. Give it time.

That’s what drives long-term progress.

Very proud of the progress you’ve made and how much work has gone into getting here Tegan Ellis 👏🏻

It’s been amazing working with you and watching the changes build over time, not just physically, but in the consistency and confidence behind them as well.

You’ve done an incredible job, and I’m really looking forward to seeing what we can achieve together with the next goal 🔥

A lot of people think online coaching looks like this:

Fill out a form. Get some calories & macros. Get a program. Check in once a week.

That’s not really how I do it.

When I review someone’s intake form I’m not just looking at their goal. I’m looking at their training, food habits, work schedule, sleep, stress, injuries, health background and what they can actually stick to.

That’s why two people with the same goal can end up with completely different plans.

The check-ins are where a lot of the actual coaching happens too. I’m not looking at one weigh-in and making a random change. I’m looking at the full picture, like weight trends, photos, food logs, training performance, energy, sleep and what actually happened that week.

Then I adjust based on patterns, not emotions.

Sometimes that means changing calories. Sometimes it means changing training. Sometimes it means doing nothing and letting the plan work.

It’s not just having a plan. It’s having a proper process behind it 🙌

A good program should evolve, not constantly restart.

Progress is not always exciting or obvious. Some weeks feel strong, others feel flat, which is why one session should not decide whether a program is working.

Track the bigger picture: load, repetitions, technique, effort, recovery and consistency.

Variety has a place, but it should support the plan, not replace it.

Don’t confuse a lack of novelty with a lack of progress.

Injuries are often spoken about like there has to be one obvious reason behind them, one bad rep, one weak area, one mistake in technique or one thing the person “should have done better.”

Sometimes there is a clear explanation, especially with direct trauma. But a lot of training-related injuries are more complicated than that. What matters is the full picture: the demands someone has been exposed to, how prepared they were for those demands, what had changed recently, how their training was structured and what state they were in at the time.

That doesn’t mean technique, joint position, load, recovery or programming don’t matter. They do. It means none of them should be looked at on their own and treated like they automatically explain the injury.

Good coaching isn’t about trying to make someone completely injury-proof. It’s about building capacity, progressing exposure properly, managing recovery and making better decisions based on the person in front of you.

We can’t remove every injury risk, but we can understand it better, reduce the chances and help people become more prepared for what they’re asking their body to do.

4 weeks out Roda Ireland 👊

Coming in really well!

Roda came to me 11 weeks ago and we jumped straight in. I usually prefer an offseason or a few months with a new client before prep. Not always for size, but to actually understand how their body responds to training and nutrition and to make sure health, habits, sleep, digestion and recovery fundamentals are consistent. Makes prep decisions easier down the line.

First time working together AND doing it in prep haha.

She’s made it work, asked the right questions, trusted the plan, stayed consistent and only had 2 mini freak outs when weight didn’t drop - which it always did days later lol 😜

First show with NBA in 4 weeks. Proud of her and excited to see her up there 👏🏻🔥
