if anyone is asking why I couldn't go upwind and was so slow , I think this may be the answer! happily tied up at Opua after 6 days exactly from momi pass fiji to opua. haul out tomorrow hopefully if anyone is around and wants to jump on a sander!!!

had a pretty rough last 24hrs, pumped a lot of water out of the transoms where water was coming in from where the rudder lift lines where, and while doing it crawled down the back of the boat the bilge pump decided to catch on fire and smoke me out. lucky all good but I have never seen flames from a bilge pump in 1 inch of water before, it didnt even trip the 7amp fuse! fwd hatch leaks too, will replace in opua, only 2 hatches on the entire boat and of course they leak! still managed ok with a 283nm 24hrs., not the 300 solo i wanted to crack but i guess with only one rudder and being forced to reef down I have excuses for being so slow. lighter winds ahead and hopefully make it south of the cape before the sw change arrives.

hit something going 13knots. lucky I have 2 rudders. managed to wrestle the rudder back onboard but lost the shaft. redesigned pilot control and steering back on course let's hope no more crap out here.

Just left denerau fiji solo sailing to Opua nz, Routing now showing 7 days lets hope faster .,

some days are better than others. I have to say don't trust Marina Taina in tahiti moorings. Yesterday in 10 knots of wind we saved a boat that broke free and the marina then let it break free again after saving it and it damaged a friend's catamaran. And today this. The mooring not even attached with thimble and swivels to the block and breaking 10m below the surface. Disgraceful for the most expensive moorings on earth. over 800euro a month for a cat sd size.
