Why is exercise so good for the mind? πŸ€”

βœ… Because it is hard.

Why is doing something hard good for the mind?

βœ… Because it builds discipline.

Why would you want to build discipline?

βœ… So you bring order into your life and have the ability to maintain a level of control that allows you to develop positively as a person. 🀯

Why would you do that?

That is a great question to ponder.

So ponder it.

Motivation.

I’ve been training in one way or another for more than half my life, 17 years, I have always had a motivation to keep me doing the hard work, especially when I didn’t want to.

Motivations like
➑️ Bullying
➑️ To look better and be stronger
➑️ To run a marathon
➑️ To protect and serve my country
➑️ To learn new skills

Those are some of the motivations I have had, and underneath the surface of all of them was a deeper meaning that gave power to that motivation.

I have just overcome a point in my life where I was not motivated to train, it was a period where I felt lost and did not have a deeper meaning to fuel my motivation. πŸ’ͺ

That time has passed, and I received a great learning experience and growth that I did not expect.

I have found one of the deepest sources of meaning in my life to power my motivation, resistance.

The daily battle within myself to either stay the same and stagnate or to grow and change for the better.

What motivates you, the deeper meaning, to get up every day and put in the hard work?

Determination and consistency will get you to where you want to go! πŸ‘

Nuri is one of our members who proves determination and consistency works.

She is not afraid of a challenge and works hard to overcome them.

Here she is performing a get-up with a kettlebell, a movement she has improved greatly on.

This is one of many complex exercises I teach and requires focus and awareness to perform correctly and efficiently.

Movements like these can teach you a lot about how your body and mind works.

Over the years Nuri has been training with me, her strength and performance has improved dramatically.

Determination, consistency, and a lot of patience is key to success.

Strength is a mindset 🧠πŸ’ͺ

A new member has joined the team and is beginning her journey to a stronger healthier body and mind.

The most important part of the journey are the lessons learnt.

Today Brenda learnt that she is stronger than she thought.

I had her perform deadlifts, an exercise she has not done before, with an 8kg kettlebell up to a 32kg in 4kg increments.

She performed all weights with correct technique and form.

What I love about this little exercise is the look on people's faces when they realise they are stronger than they thought.

That shift in perception towards themselves increases their confidence and in turn their strength.

This is one reason why physically challenging your body is so important. The mind is connected and therefore challenged at the same time.

Testing and knowing your limits allows you to know what you are capable of.

βœ…To know is to have confidence, to not know is to have uncertainty and lack of confidence.

βœ…To know your limits is to know yourself.

βœ…A stronger mind creates a stronger body and a stronger body creates a stronger mind.

Hip flexors are an important muscle for our hip movement and mobility. 🦡

They can become very tight from prolonged sitting and activities that require their input like running and squatting.

It is important to keep them flexible, it is also important to keep them strong.

Nuri is performing a lying hip flexor pull, using a resistance band to work the hip flexors.

This exercise can be great for developing explosiveness. It is also a good for practicing and developing core control and stability.

A nifty exercise to add to the library!

10 raised heel squats on the minute every minute for 10 minutes. 🦡

There were some sore legs for a while afterwards πŸ˜…

One of the workouts the team is currently working with.

The aim is to increase the strength of the VMO (part of the quad that supports the knee) for improved joint health.

And to keep things spicy 🌢️πŸ”₯

Working hard or hardly working?

This is an exercise that feels like both.

The ladies are performing a weighted tib raise (using the foot to lift a weight up towards their shin).

It may not look like you are doing much until you see the facial expressions, they are quite animated during a tib raise πŸ˜…
