We held our US Open tennis afternoon on Saturday in windy conditions but thankfully no rain.

Novak is saying exactly what I have been saying for years.

Tennis really needs a reset. The tours have to rethink the formats, the rules, and the calendar. The average fan is 61 years old, the matches are too long, and he is right to say the sport needs solutions. We have been using this system for 50 years.

I also agree that Grand Slams should never change. They are history. They will always be the biggest tournaments in our sport. Five-set matches are part of what makes them special. They are long, yes, but they are rare, and that is why people accept them so well.

For the rest of the tour, I think shorter formats should be part of the solution. We cannot simply say there should be no tour anymore, but we do need to move toward shorter formats slowly and progressively. That is why the combination of ATP and UTS is so important. ATP keeps serving the core tennis fans, while UTS helps attract new fans and could, one day, lead to a bigger shift. I think ATP and UTS together make a very strong combination.
