Earlier this month Dayna presented as an industry professional as part of a STEM and Drone workshop for teachers in Cairns and on the Tablelands. 🎤
This event was run by She Maps as part of their 2023 Drone Roadshow. She Maps is a company that specialises in STEM education programs and resources for teachers and schools with a particular emphasis on geospatial technology and skills. 🗺️
Dayna spoke about how she began her pathway into the drone industry and how she currently uses drones in the agricultural and commercial sectors. The idea was to give the teachers a little insight and understanding into the kind of careers and research opportunities that there are for their students within the drone and GIS industries. 📚

We have been busy bees today, 🐝 attending and presenting at the ‘Managing native bee pollinators on your farm’ workshop in Mareeba.
This event was presented by Dr Tim Heard (entomologist and ex-CSIRO research scientist). Funded by AgriFutures and supported by the Australian Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry.
We gave a short presentation explaining to growers and businesses how our aerial spreading of beneficials can manage their bee pollinators and enhance their farm’s biodiversity.
The topics Tim covered has given us extra knowledge on:
• Bees, their biology, life cycle, social life, nesting and foraging behaviour 🐝
• Flower structure, biology, and pollination of relevant local crops 🌺
• Managing your farm agroecosystem to protect and encourage native bees 🌾
• Propagation and management of native stingless bee hives on farms 🍯
• Increasing the yield of your horticultural crops by boosting number of native bee pollinators 📈
Focusing on growers of Avocados, Mangoes, Lychee, Coffee, Davidson Plum and Blueberry. 🥑🥭🫐

Completed for one of E.E. Muir & Sons Pty. Ltd. farmers 🧑🏻🌾 on their lemon orchard 🍋
Neoseiulus californicus were spread throughout the orchard effortlessly using one of our drones. These predatory mites are used for control of Oriental spider mites.
Pests can often be controlled by using beneficial insects which encourages their natural predators as another mean of cultural control. As well as, increasing your farm’s biodiversity and becoming more financially and environmentally sustainable. 🌱
An added bonus of this method, is that it protects our pollinators, such as bees, by minimising our need to use pesticides or insecticides. Which means it enhances your farm environment for the beneficials, while also increasing their abundance over time and can lead to a more consistent crop pollination from year to year. 🌼
