Cairns Youth Centre

The Cairns Youth Centre had a visit on Thursday night from Cairns Mayor Amy Eden for the Final Night of our Girls in Sport Program for the year. Amy stayed on and played a game with the girls which was a highlight for the girls.

The Cairns Youth Centre has made its Sports hall available for the next few weeks to help local Sitting Volleyball player Damian Byrnes. Damian has made the Australian team and will travel to China Shortly for a tournament.
Yesterday he was joined by some of the Reefers Volleyball players for some game practice.
Congratulations Damian on your selection and we hope you have a good tournament.

Week 1 of our Girls Volleyball Program this afternoon, great turnout and the girls were helped by some of the senior members of the Reefers Volleyball Club.

Cairns Youth Centre is proud to announce it is hosting a Girls Volleyball Program for girls in Grades 7 to 10. This is a FREE come and try program to give girls a introduction to the sport of Volleyball. The Volleyball pathway for girls this year has been a great success, through schools and Club Volleyball teams attending State Championships and recently two Girls making State Under 16 and Under 18 teams.
Volleyball is a Olympic Sport and the Cairns Youth Centre is proud to be the home of Volleyball in Cairns.
This program is offered thanks to the Queensland Government's Active women and Girls and Active Clubs programs.

The Cairns Youth Centre works hard to make improvements to the facility. We recently had the Sports Hall Roof and Side wall painted with Heat Reflective Pain. Last Saturday night someone decided they did not like the new paint job and decided it needed something else. Cutting the barbwire to get access they decided they could do a better job. We are not sure it looks better so one of our Volunteers will need to try and remove their handy work and re-paint the area again.

Cairns Youth Centre is looking for helpers this Sunday to do some works at the rear of the Fulton Building. 9am start.

With the Ban on Community Sport - the Youth Centre Sports hall will be closed until 4pm August 22nd.
