SENIORS Recap Sunday 31st May:...TRIPLE SUCCESS Today!!
⚾ C GRADE: The team took the win over the Angels today; got in front early and held the lead as the game tightened up in the later innings. Thanks to Myles and Finn for their efforts on the mound. And despite coach throwing him a bit of a curveball by starting him at catcher, Laine stood up to the task for two innings before being relieved by Ben G. Myles showed off, and entertained the team, with a nice pop-up slide well before the base. New Reds player Wes brought great enthusiasm and flashed some real raw talent. Thanks also to Patrick, who plays in Junior League and made his first appearance in Seniors today. Great effort all round.
⚾ B GRADE: It was a case of jumping out to an early lead and holding on for the entire game. We had runners on base in almost every innings and capitalised with timely hits whenever we had runners in scoring positions. Strong pitching from Haruna, who went the distance, kept the opposition's scoring in check and put us in a great position to take the win over the Cubs.
⚾ A GRADE: Today, one word summed it up…fundamentals…at last! 😄
After a couple of clunky early outings — where a narrow win and a five-run loss both flattered us more than we deserved — today we put it all together. Limited the errors, put the ball in play, and plenty of hard hits found the gaps. Any runs against us were well and truly earned by the opposition. A solid win today against the Cubs. We now head into a Friday/Sunday double-header weekend, where we start clawing back some of those rain-outs. Looking forward to seeing all our supporters at our games.

JUNIORS Recap Saturday 30th May:
⚾ LITTLE LEAGUE - First big test of the season for our little superstars…double-header week! 😮 Game one: came out firing — big energy, balls in play, some stellar fielding — and snuck away with the win. Game two: concentration started to fade, but the fun didn't, and the players dug deep for a come-from-behind draw.
⭐ Star of the Week: Bronson — three outs in a single inning! Coach Fleety sent him home to give big bro some tips… and a heads up that DEEMAL 2.0 is coming for that A-grade spot. 😂
⚾ JUNIOR LEAGUE - The DODGY REDS claimed a win over the Cubs. After a close first 3 innings the team broke away in the 4th with a strong hitting display. Thanks to new player, Stephen, for playing with Cubs this week.
Congrats to Patrick K for earning Players' Player, showing great consistency at first base and finishing strong as catcher.

Thanks to all our volunteers who make baseball happen here in Cairns.

Behind every first pitch, every perfectly lined diamond, every junior player’s first hit, and every championship celebration is a team of volunteers helping make baseball happen.

This National Volunteer Week, Baseball Queensland proudly recognises the volunteers who are the heartbeat of baseball communities across the state.

From early mornings preparing fields to late nights closing canteens after extra innings, volunteers are involved in every part of the game.

They coach teams, umpire games, score from the sidelines, organise fixtures, wash uniforms, drive buses, run tournaments, and welcome new families into the baseball community.

The 2026 National Volunteer Week theme, Your Year to Volunteer, celebrates the incredible impact volunteers make while encouraging more Australians to step up and become part of something bigger.

In baseball, volunteering is about more than filling a role — it is about keeping the game alive.

So this year we want to say cheers to our extended roster. To the names that you won't find on the line up card. All the same, they've made it to our MVP list.

Make sure you take the time to give them a shout out not just this week but every week.🙏

⚾️ It was a bit of a damp weekend that affected the Senior A Grade game on Friday evening and Juniors on Saturday. The Senior B Grade was able to get onto Diamond 2 Sunday morning thanks to the efforts of Fleety. B grade unfortunately did not come away with the win.

⚾️ Moving on to next weekend, the club has its AGM at 12:30pm Saturday 23rd May after the junior games. All members are welcome to attend. We are a volunteer run club so please consider nominating for a role in our club.

Photos of new Reds players AYLA and HARUNA. Also a happy C GRADE Team. Brief game reports from our first games of the season.

A GRADE: The team battled through wet conditions to secure a hard-fought win against the Cubs in our season opener. The weather made it tough for pitchers to throw strikes, leading to patient at-bats and strong hitting from both sides. Fielding was sloppy at times, but there were also some excellent plays. Ayla, in her very first baseball game, delivered a standout throw from right field to the cutoff, which was relayed home to nail the runner and keep the game tied. The last strike out to win the game was sweet. Lots to work on, but we’ll take the momentum from this win and keep improving. Great effort, team!

B GRADE: The team went down 9-11 in a tight, seesawing battle against the Cubs. We held the lead at several stages but couldn’t quite close it out. Base running and fielding errors proved costly, but there were plenty of positives to take from the game. Special shout-out to Haruna, who was outstanding on the mound as our starting pitcher. We'll bounce back next game.

C GRADE: The team achieved a win against the Angels 15-7. Welcome to our new players Harvey, Darren, Dave, Renz and Jasper. A highlight was to have two of last year's Reds juniors enter the senior competition. In particular, Laine who was the starting pitcher and Myles completing the game as catcher. While there was raw enthusiasm there is definitely raw talent to work on. A bye next week, so an extra time to recover and sharpen our skills.
